Snow Headed Our Way

Well the snow season is officially being reigned in as the forcast is calling for a snow storm starting Saturday evening. The forcast calls for 6-12 inches of total accumulation and high winds to go along with the flurry.

If you lack four wheel drive this will be your opportunity to go out and get those last minute snow removal items before they are all gone. Ice melters are usually the biggest challenge, no one seems to want them until the ground is iced over then they dissappear from store shelves en-masse.

Please drive carefully, keep your cars out of snow removal zones and enjoy any holiday parties you might be attending.

Milford Threatened With North East Flood Threat.

Looks like some severe weather is headed our way, the wife said she heard word of Monsoon Like rain headed our way. Might want to take precautions against flooding and doing the common sense things like making sure your basement pumps work and your drains are not clogged.

Last year Issues of flooding angered residents down in Devon and pictures came along to this website of flooded churches, streets and basement damage. Anyone who has a basement that could potentially flood should keep their valuables away from spots that will ruin them with mold or the like negative effects of water damage.

People living along the beach should be prepared for higher than normal tides and more agressive runnoffs of nearby river estuaries. The Coast Guard also advises boat owners to make sure their sump pumps are working properly.

According to Weather.com the rain is expected to begin late this evening and continue into the next day.

Record Snowfalls Bust Budgets

Many cities in Connecticut were already hoping global warming was going to save them from the high costs of snow removal. Some cities budgeted for about 7-10 snow storms and with that number smashed to 12 this year funds are coming up short and creative accounting is taking place.

A large scale snow storm could cost as much as One Million dollars an inch to remove, and if the snow has to be cleared outside regular hours, meaning into the early morning pay rates for many city employees could rack up fast as they collect overtime, double time, and report lots of hours.

The toll on local budgets is still being added and some cities are issuing municipal bonds. We know that Milford will be impacted somewhere in its bottom line and the final figures will be posted when those numbers are made available.
