Democrats and Republicans Exploit Hurricane for Votes

Politics in Milford amazes me, and as one could expect "no crisis should ever go to waste." Soon after the hurricane hit, both candidates for Mayor, the Republican and the Democrat took to the press to exploit this horrific event for their own political gain. This is not a difficult call to make, because in the past, during the hardships we faced from other natural disasters, including flooding like we have seen in the last week, neither one of them (to my knowledge) ever posted a caring blog or made a loving comment.

Now we have Lawyers with a heart and Politicians with a conscience doing what they do best, posing for pictures and telling heartfelt stories and pretending to have a connection to humanity. I expect to see lots of photographs depicting everything from baby kissing, to posing with municipal celebrities. It will be up to you to guess why. Is it perhaps they have suddenly found Jesus and and are in touch with their kinder gentler spiritual selfless side? or is it election season and they are exploiting your vulnerabilities in exchange for your vote?

Thankfully, and I personally believe, that the people of Milford know the difference between phony politics and genuine sincerity. In my view, sincerity is a long and selfless track record of giving without expectation of a reward. Some of the most selfless heroes I know are Mother Theresa, Gandhi, and my late Grandmother Rose Frank who fed Troops, cared for the sick and injured, and helped rebuild wells in her village in 1943 during the WWII battle for Sicily. She never ran for office and her selfless personality flourished until the day she passed.

There are rare people out there who just light up a room with their sincerity, their kindness and their generosity. It is a phenomena that requires no pictures, speaks no words and requires no news coverage. This is because true heroes are discovered by surprise, it is the results of their good deeds that make the news, as is the extent of their impact on the lives of countless greatful others. Heroes are recognized by people like you or me, your friends, your neighbors and in the thoughts and words of the individuals whose lives they changed. Who here, in this city really believes that a couple of mayoral contenders for Mayor realistically and credibly fit this image.

Humbly I can admit that I am no Gandhi, no Mother Theresa and no saint. What say the rest of our local politicians who now offer good tidings in the wake of a disaster? I say their sincerity is highly suspect in the wake of an upcoming election.. I would love to know your thoughts, do we have genuine sincerity or just a couple of vote grabbing "wind bags?"

Milford McMahon Rally Ends With Park Trees Damaged

Environmentalists said Tuesday that the tops of several "heirloom" trees were removed from a small park in front of City Hall that were part of the Milford Legacy Arboretum.

Although some said they'd heard that the tree tops were cut to improve access for television cameras during a weekend rally by U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon, a campaign spokesman said it had nothing to do with it. "The campaign never asked anyone to trim trees," Ed Patru said.

"I don't know why it happened or by whom, but it was a shock to me; a distressing one," said Letitia Malone, chairman of the Open Space Advisory Committee. The small park in front of City Hall, which includes the World War I "Doughboy" monument, is part of the newly established arboretum. The continuous line of graceful, mature trees continues along the Green and includes native hardwood species.

Milford's Linda McMahon Rally Turns Into A Disaster

Video Courtesy of CT Bob. Videographer and Dedicated Democrat Bob Adams has a penchant for getting perspective on local events here in town. Bob attended the Republican Hyped McMahon Rally and showed us an angle that I am certain the Milford Republicans would like us to forget. Since they will certainly not brag about the events that took place I thought that in the spirit of "Veritas" the Milford Independent Party owes you the information you missed.

Rosa Delauro's Ties To BP Challenged

Republican candidate for Congress Jerry Labriola Tuesday called on Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro to explain why she hasn’t disclosed her husband’s lucrative relationship with the company behind the largest environmental disaster in American history.

Stanley Greenberg is president of a public relations and polling company which represents British Petroleum (BP), which owns the damaged drilling site which continues to spew oil into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

“Rosa DeLauro is an insider, and because she’s an insider, she has said nothing about the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Labriola. “Worse, Rosa DeLauro has not disclosed this conflict perhaps because of her husband’s business interests.”

Rosa DeLauro, the second highest ranking woman in the Congress next to Nancy Pelosi, claims on her official website: “we have a responsibility to protect our natural resources and ensure that we have a clean, healthy environment.”

“Stan Greenberg is entitled to make a living, but where is the line?” asked Labriola. “One has to ask: does the money Stan Greenberg makes conflict with his wife’s ability to represent the people of the 3rd Congressional District and her claims on her website?”

Credit Card Debt Soars to One Trillion!

Some time ago I warned that the faltering subprime credit mess would put pressure on consumers to turn to their credit cards for money. The start of 2008 is showing just that, many American's have now "balooned" their credit card debt to a record one trillion dollars.

This is an enormous problem as our entire economy is built on a system of credit. Debt is what makes it possible to own a home, buy a car, build a business and believe it or not retire. But why does a person need credit to retire? The answer is that inflation, low Social Security payments, and stock market madness has led to a revolution in "Reverse Mortgage" retirement. This allows an elderly person to sell their home to the bank before they pass on.

Identity theft has compounded this debt problem, and resulted in a decrease in FICO Scores. The signs of contracting credit is placing a burden on all areas of the American Economy. Banks afraid of more defaults are eliminating subprime lending, creating superfunds to absorb losses and even borrowing from overseas investors.

Today Gold hit $900.00 per ounce, this is an indication that world markets are becoming increasingly pessimistic about the U.S., and possibly the Global Economy. The real challenge will emerge when the new bankruptcy law is imposed against Americans who believe that going broke is an option as if like it was for our parents. This may not be the case anymore, because the level of difficulty in having your debt pardoned, and being granted a fresh start is not what it used to be.

Bailing on your debt has more in common with trying to bail on child support today. Although there is no "official" debtors prison we do have "contempt of court" of which is the same thing. For now America's future economic fate is no longer in Americas hands. We have something called a "Dollar Peg" that is in the hands of foreign nations who are mired with troubled dollars they no longer want.

Many nations are already distancing themselves from the U.S. currency, while Americas leaders continue to ignore all the warning signs even those from Americas chief accountant David Walker who has gone public on the debt and credit fiasco undermining our national sovereignty.

David's message, recently was again on Glenn Beck.

Milford's Home Values Holding or not?

Today the National Association of Realtors announced sluggish home sales due to the Credit and Lending markets being in turmoil. The National report indicated the average U.S. home price to be down to $211,700 for Q3 2007. at the end of 2004 the median home price in the U.S. was $221,000. This is apx. a 5% decline over the last 5 years.

These numbers are deceptive however, because they do not factor in what the U.S. dollar is worth in this global economy. When we factor in the value of the dollar five years ago we can clearly see the dollar declined in value against other major currencies. A decline in excess of 55% in real world Global economic value. When we consider this figure it is simple to see that the average U.S. home plunged to the equivalent of $95,265.00. While this may seem irrelevant to you, it is a real attractive deal for anyone buying a U.S. home in Euros. This is the true economic and masked deception the global economy uses to fool us into believing our markets are "Holding on."

One may wonder how did this happen? The answer is simple, it boils down to U.S. monetary policy, and the reliance on the Federal Reserve to print money out of "thin air" to pay our bills. America is the largest debtor nation on the planet now owing in excess of 9 Trillion, and some believe that we can no longer continue without debasing and counterfeiting money to pay bills. Greenspan, Walker of the GAO, and the IMF, have all indicated that the dollar is in trouble. There is even talk of America using a north American currency called the "Amero" to solve these problems.

Meanwhile, if you are a globalist America has just robbed the Global value of your home by debasing our currency on world markets. This practice, is not expected to end soon because our Political leaders at all levels of government continue to spend like "Drunken Sailors." The debased currency is fueling a cycle of inflation that is making every leader in America scramble for new and innovative ways to grab your last few bucks in new taxes. In short this is one part of Real Estate Globalism our leaders would prefer you not focus on.

Now lets talk a bit about our home values in Milford right here in town. The National Association of Realtors has listed the average home in Milford to be up 1.5% over the last five years. This I suppose is good news because the entire North East is down 10% comparatively. While we have seen the values of our homes go up and and down over the last few years we are now settled at $297,000. In 2008 The average homeowner will pay $4,653.00 in property tax. This also translates to a per capita tax of apx. $2,550 or your personal share of the city tax burden.

According to CRC a city profile research company the debt obligation per citizen in Milford was $1,888.00 in 1999. When we look at the debt growth due to State and national monetary challenges we soon realize that our personal tax obligations increased at apx 4.25% per year compounded. As compared to the CPI(Consumer Price Index) a figure used to asses normal economic inflationary cycles, this figure outpaces normal inflation for the Northeast by an estimated 1%. This would indicate to me that the city has adjusted its annual budget to meet the obligations of the existing services. The city has not cut back, and cannot cut back without eliminating jobs and or departments and services to alleviate tax burdens. Our Mayor Richitelli has held the line, but has not shrunk the size of the local government of which may be a bad idea since Milford is the largest employer in Town.

With these figures it is my opinion that any Mayoral candidate who states it is possible to cut taxes without compromising services, or city jobs is simply deceiving, not telling the truth, or has no understanding of the CPI relative to the City's tax needs.

Part of my campaign has been to promote and expand the ailing tax base. I believe that the best way we can rid ourselves of this Real Estate Tax Rut is to expand local commerce and encourage commercial development. The city also needs to audit frequently non contract labor, while ensuring new contracts are really beneficial and cost prudent. Lastly, we need to demand our Federal Income Tax dollars be apportioned back to us as the law requires. Not one cent of our Federal Income Tax helps a Milford resident with their personal tax burden. To learn more about this tax fraud read the Reagan era report issued by the "Grace Commission." Nothing has changed since then, other than we now have U.S. Congressman Ron Paul telling us the IRS is still not acting legally and should be eliminated.

On the state level I think CT should adopt a position of states rights, including distancing ourselves from the ailing "greenback." I believe that CT should issue its own statewide currency in the same manner that the "Berkshare Note" was issued in New Hampshire. With the constant and continued dire warnings of a debased dollar, CT has been more than warned. Creating an aggregate currency might be a good security measure for CT, so long as that new currency is not backed by the Dollar itself. It should also serve the purpose of hedging against the now struggling dollar. CT has last printed its own currency in the late 1800's in New London. If New Hampshire is able to have its own currency than I believe CT should be able to as well.
