North American Power Fighting For Low Cost Electric

Deregulation may be at risk with our governor elect Dan Malloy. Recently Jody Rell vetoed a new energy bill that would have killed competitors in the energy market. Currently there are over thirty companies out there that are thriving and competing to deliver you lower electric rates.

My personal favorite has been North American Power because they, like many of their competitors have a stable rate that rarely changes. As a consumer and salesperson for North American Power I can tell you with all sincerity that they have kept to their word and delivered when no one else out there could.

More often than not competitors offer suspiciously low rates only to have those rates marred with surprise increases after their teaser period expires. With NAP there are no teaser rates, and most exciting the CEO of this company Carey Turnbull and Kerry Breitbart are former owners of Amerex the largest energy trading and hedging company in America. Few people are as talented or able to compete with these individuals.

Wells Fargo Bank has offered NAP a 75M Dollar line of credit AS A START UP COMPANY! No other company in my recent memory has been give that kind of trust, or that kind of a "seal of approval."

Dan Mallow is expected to not VETO the energy bill that Rell did. The "job killing bill" may come up again in the near future, and when it does only those who are locked in at the lower rates will be able to keep them. The Democrats in Hartford are of the opinion that the Legislature is better off setting our rates rather than private enterprise. While many have argued this practice as Socialism and an attack on free enterprise, others have taken matters in their own hands enrolled, and given these privately owned companies the needed capital and resources they need to fight Socialism in Hartford. Andrew White Independent Nominee for State Treasurer 2010

The Founding Fathers envisioned a government perhaps best described years later by Abraham Lincoln: “[a] government of the people, by the people, [and] for the people.” They founded the united States with the Declaration of Independence, lost life and fortune, and constructed a Constitution for Citizen Legislators - not a permanent ruling class. Throwing off the yoke of one despot to take up chains of hundreds of tyrants was not their plan. Almost 250 years later, though, America has lost the Founder’s ideals in a very bad way - but all is not lost. Indeed, our darkest hour may precede a Renaissance of the Individual American for our next 250 years. At home, that is a Connecticut Renaissance.


I am Andrew White, and I am running for Treasurer of the great state of Connecticut. I am also a common man - not unlike you. Son of US Army captain, educated in a standard way and married with two (if I may say) cute girls. I’m not rich, not a lawyer, not a politician nor famous. I am also a highly concerned citizen. But appearances can be deceiving. I’m a naturally-born US citizen who entered the world on the Rein Mein US Base in Frankfurt, Germany. I grew up in Huntsville, Alabama (home of NASA and the last 1950’s upbringing by a non-indigenous extended family - thus no accent). I later attended The University of Alabama (think ‘Gone with the Wind’). My self-programmed “major” was broadly classically liberal infused with finance/economics (mentored by two College Deans and a senior businessman). I graduated with a Bachelor of Finance (summa cum laude). Soon thereafter, I earned a Master of Economics and a Chartered Financial Analyst designation – gold standard for investment analysts.

While a Senior in college, I met a…different…kind of girl, at least in Tuscaloosa: a violinist from Berkeley, California, complete with tye-dye, blonde hair down past her rear and a violin "hickey." My proper, Prince Edward Island-raised mother was not pleased. After graduation, I followed HER to San Francisco where I worked at Sumitomo Bank. Coincident with her graduation from UC Berkeley, we married (going on 14 years now) and moved to London, England for her professional performance violinist fellowship. Six months turned into six years. She rose to play with the Royal Philharmonic, toured with European orchestras and once rocked with Eric Clapton. I worked my way up through Citibank into UBS, where I was a global equity strategist and manager amid a material turn-around in $400 billion investment assets. Along the way, I also served as Vice Chairman of Republicans Abroad (UK).

Post 9/11, we wished to return to America, but there were no jobs to be found. Despite having a Top 1% GMAT globally, I did NOT go US Ivy League to bide my time in the recession. Instead, I looked deep within myself and reached back into my college studies. In particular, a previously unknown impregnable, 20-year emotional wall (related to my own parents' divorce decades ago) crashed down upon me, leaving a new questing decade in its rubble. Long story short, we left England and our institutional 20’s (1990's) behind, put everything in storage, and eventually drove the classic US road trip journey of 30,000 miles through 48 states over 15 months to get back in touch with the real America. Chronicled on Homecoming2002.com, it was the beginning of a creative explosion that would lead me away from Wall Street-style money management into the world of entrepreneurial alternative asset management.

I am Andrew White, and I have experienced global highs and personal lows. Three times. I know the cycle - personally and professionally - and how to recover (e.g. specific answers, not platitudes). Times are so serious today that we can no longer ignore factors affecting us near-term AND long-term. They are increasingly one in the same. Our current circumstances, however, directly relate to the major parties' dominance (especially the Democrats). Over 30 years, they took America's richest state with the 17th lowest tax rate and turned it into the 3rd highest tax rate while accruing $70 billion debts (or about $70,000 per household).

Business as usual is OVER. It is time to Take Our State Back in the 2010 election. Most importantly, it's time to also implement specific solutions after the election that will unleash a bull market in economy and liberty like you’ve never experienced. Like almost all today, I too want to echo Martin Luther King Jr. in one day saying, “Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we’re free at last!”

Returning Connecticut to Constitutional limits will NOT be easy. BUT, it IS possible. There are 3.5 million of us, only a few of them, and the dignity of human freedom on OUR side. It is also beyond necessary. We face a horrendous Sophie’s Choice wherein one half of our State will live in ruin or the other half will die early. That’s not opinion; it’s mathematical certainty. We owe it to our ancestors, to our families, and to our towns to ensure that that day never comes to pass. If we continue the Statist path of the last 30+ years, though, YOU and I WILL both walk through that Valley.

There are those who understandably deride me for many reasons. That’s ok. Many instead focus on who's talking platitudes/career advancement and who's talking solutions. As Gandhi once said, “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

I’m willing to do the heavy lifting and take the arrows, but I need YOUR help to do so. This is YOUR opportunity to finally have a Treasurer in YOUR image; a Treasurer OF, by and for The People to lead all of State back to Constitutional governance.

Give me an inch, I'll jog a mile. Give me a mile, and I'll run all the way to the Hartford. It's quite likely the difference between having to again choose between the lesser of two evils amidst societal ruin or a bull market in economy and liberty the likes you've never seen. Can Hartford Really Be Fixed By The 118Th?

The race for the 118th is just starting to kick off and in the next few months the voters will be rushing to the polls to vote in state and federal races. While I am quite pessimistic about this years choices fixing Washington I am also getting equally frustrated with the economic repairmen competing in our local races.

Dreadfully, I really dislike bringing up the past, but it is always important to know that there are plenty of very popular well meaning people out there. Our last two representatives in the 118th were both Democrats with Barbara Lambert resigning after serving just one term. Prior to that we had the former Speaker of the House Jim Amann who also resigned his post in favor of a Gubernatorial bid.

This year we have another three-way race with four political parties being represented. Added to the usual Republican, Independent, and Democrat Parties, we have the added intrusion of the Working Families Party. While most people think WF is a real party it is important to note that they rarely to never run any candidates.

Working Families is a labor union driven entity who has endorsed Democrats in 99% of every contested race in Connecticut. To see their list of cross endorsements click here.

This years Republican Candidate is Greg Smith the present Chairman of the Milford Board of Alderman. Greg replaced the very popular tax cutting Ben Blake after the Republican landslide in 2010.

The Democrat Kim Rose is vying to retain the 118th yet again for the Democrats. Rose is active in several Milford organizations including the Elks, the Irish festival and the Planning and Zoning Board. Rose is also cross endorsed by the Working Families Party.

The Independent is Rocco Frank Jr. who is running again. Frank is a small business owner and has served the state of Connecticut as a Special Deputy Sheriff. Frank is also the Chairman of the Milford Independent Party and is largely responsible for all Independents that appear on the Milford ballot. Frank is also a former candidate for the Board of Education and has three children in High School.

Deciding who to vote for can be challenging, some things to remember is that this year, except for Frank, we have all new faces running for the 118th. Each of the candidates have their strengths and weaknesses.

The Democratic candidate biggest weakness may be her health, and issues that could impair her ability to represent her constituents. Driving back and forth to Hartford can be a taxing (no pun intended) experience and the same impairments that handicap her at her present job will again handicap her again if elected. Other than this issue Rose is a terrific person who has supported a great many honorable organizations and events in Milford.

The Republican Candidate Greg Smith has all of the luster of calling himself Chairman of the Milford Board of Alderman. Smith also calls himself a Libertarian and a Patriot and embraces Libertarian principles in an age where Tea Party Patriots seem to be en-vogue.

Smith's critics, however, have criticized him on several fronts and call him dis-ingenuous. Smith's greatest challenge came from the parents of Simon Lake school. Greg supported and cut the funding to Simon Lake against the wishes of several parents and teachers. Greg was also criticized again by the local media and several blogs when he voted in favor of paying $700.00 each for computer chairs at the mayors request. Greg has denied this to me in person but has failed to provede any proof by way of a reciept. These, in my opinion, are alleged errors in judgements that many of us use to cast doubt on his ability to "fix Hartford." Democrats have also alleged that Greg has voted to raise taxes more times than any Chairman I have ever known.

Rocco Frank Jr. The Independent has been dubbed and called opinionated and yet open minded at the same time. Frank as the owner of a small business, and as a former state employee has a great deal of state experience. The Milford Mirror called Frank an excellent choice in 2008, and was also endorsed by the Family Institute of CT, and every other state Independent party in the state including the American Independent Party.

Frank's biggest handicap this year is funding as he is self financed and has opted out of the Citizens Election Program. In 2008 Frank qualified and spent nearly $20,000.00 but due to a challenge expressed by Chris Healy (Chair of the CT Republicans) that this program amounts to public "theft" frank decided to opt out in 2010 until the program is proven ethical. Frank's critics have also alluded to the 10% margin he achieved in 2008 after spending $21,000.00. He has also been challenged on issues of physical graffiti objections and reforms in divorce law.

Warren Mosler Right On The Money

Warren is a brilliant economist, at first I doubted his wisdom because it has all the attributes of a cruel paradox. Then I realized that Warren is spot on. Our deficit does not matter because it has "NO VALUE" our Dollar is nothing more than paper and ink and our debt could be eliminated by losing electricity and having those computer digits die in the circuits that created them.

Money is nothing more than a tool to allow our government to exchange something of no value (Paper and Ink) for something that has value your goods and services of which the government wants. The purpose of the Fiat monetary system is to use the money supply M3 as a counterweight to the demand for money of which the government can create at will with the stroke of a computer number pad.

Some believe that this is immoral, because they (like me) object to the Government (possibly corrupt) having absolute control and power over money creation, especially when that money is used as a means to expand the government with impunity over the rights and will of the people. Some feel that having a bit of a monetary challenge to the government would be good for our republic, or in other words require the government to have money backed by something of value like a commodoty of sorts. This will guarantee that the people of America will also benefit from new money creation not just the swiss press and paper & ink industry.

Pesonally I believe and have confidence that Warren can make the current FIAT system work and I agree with Ron Paul that our government (through its incompetence) should be forbidden from abusing the currency through erratic inflation, deflation and its induced economic booms and busts like we are experiencing now.

I think Warren is one of the only people I know that can restore balance to our economic system that deperately needs to be "papered over" properly. If any of you are worried about your money being worth anything remember that you can buy Gold, Silver or some other rapidly appreciating commodoty you need not be "Papered up" yourseves. The wealthy elite do this frequently because they (unlike the masses) know (and laugh at) paper money when regarded as something of value. To them it is little more than a permission slip or for lack of a better description "casino points or credits" that can be used for merchandise.

Warren has also indicated that the IRS places so little importance on cash as money that if you dare pay your taxes in cash, they will carefully count it, give you credit (a reciept), and after you leave drop the entire pile in their shredder. Those shreds are then happily resold to tourists visiting Washington D.C.

Taxes To Rise $159.00 Per Avg. House

Taxes on the typical home in Milford will rise $159 next year under the 2010-11 budget plan the Milford Board of Aldermen adopted Monday night.

The typical home is described as a Cape or raised ranch, valued at $337,900.

Taxes on that typical home were expected to rise $160 next year before the aldermen wrangled several hours Monday night, adjusting the city-wide spending plan by about $457,000, which included about $100,000 in Democrat-proposed reductions and other adjustments throughout the budget.

The new $175.5 million budget will produce a tax rate of 28.44 mills, up from the current rate of 27.50 mills. The mill rate represents the amount of taxes property owners pay for each $1,000 in assessed property value.

Educations Future In Milford And Connecticut

We have all heard of the bailout for the auto industry, $4,500 credits, government stock buyouts and sweetheart loans that the average Joe could only dream to get. The big banks then labeled themselves as "too big to fail" and AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and all its crones were bailed out. Today the taxpayers own 80% of AIG alone and another massive amount of GM stock who could have ever imagined thing would get so out of hand.

The bailouts in the last few years were numerous, $8,500.00 first time home buyer credits, extended unemployment benefits for months beyond what is normally allowed, 40 Million Americans on food stamps and stimulus package after stimulus package packed with shovel ready pork.

Sadly, when we think of "No child left behind" and local education we are continually reminded of unfunded mandates and what a burden to the taxpayers those mandates have become. Instead of the Federal Government valuing our children we are told yet again this year that the city of Milford will be denied 1.5M of Federal funds to our schools placing an operational deficit in 2011 that could be as high as 5 Million.

Every effort is being made to streamline and contain education costs, teachers are retiring early, raises skipped, schools are being closed and local Milford residents are living more conservatively than ever. After attending several Board of education meetings it became clear that all our energy at city hall is being focused on our little patch of land we call Milford, and few remember that our patch of land is contained within the boundaries of the worst economic global downturn since the Great Depression.

My high school New York Military Academy in Cornwall NY was established in 1882 and it survived the Great Depression, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korea and the energy crisis of the 1970's but this year its operational budget losses are so high, and its Alumni so impoverished that the school is expected to fail within the next year or so.

And these problems are symptomatic across the entire state of Connecticut where teachers from all communities are living with no job security, and are afraid of what they will do next if they join the growing ranks of the unemployed.

The reason we are in the situation that we are in is because of years of the Federal Reserve's "ponzi" style monetary policy whereby money can be printed at the whims of congress and the banks to fund the next popular war/invasion against an invisible tactic fear mongered as "TERRORISM."

While we all surrender our rights for our security and sit an awe over some person who lit his underwear on fire with a failed bomb, or the times Square Frizzler, our President, Obama makes jokes about the terror on the U.S. Arizona/Mexico border that has landed 17,000 people dead and murdered. Americans get kidnapped by Mexican drug dealers, they threaten and kill our nations police officers, and poison our people with the very drugs the U.S. troops protect for Karzai in Afghanistan and no one in the BS media covers it as terrorism.

The sooner we realize that Washington D.C. is no longer America's friend but rather it's enemy our mission will become clear. Our mission is to establish state sovereignty under the 9, 10Th Amendment dissolve all illegal treaties, break ties with all World Governments and start indicting U.S. Senators and Congressmen who willfully violated the Logan act and defied the U.S. Constitution. In other words Connecticut needs to start doing the Job the Federal Government is ignoring.

For those of you who still do not get it, you should be aware by now that Washington D.C. has been waging a war on the Middle Class while making the rich richer and you poorer. As we rebel against the Tyranny of Washington D.C. they have launched a police state against us whereby "lists" are being used to circumvent the Constitution and punish anyone who dare preach their inaliable rights in America.

All these problems are rapidly coming home to roost, right here in our state and our town. The message from Washington DC is clear we have trillions for war, now billions to bail out Greece but little to nothing to help educate America's kids. This message, by virtue of its priorities should beckon you to rise up and join Tea Parties everywhere.

Moving forward the structural deficits now being exaggerated by the federal government and the inevitable climbs in interest rates due to inflation in the next 24 months is expected to destabilize every grand list in America let alone Milford. Hartford is going to have a challenging time managing the take over of cities like Bridgeport, Hartford and Waterbury who have had structural deficits that bankrupted them long ago. Those problems are going to spread beyond the normal areas that they normally occupy.

Taxes alone will not solve our problems in education because equilibrium will be reached relative to tax collection and the maximum attainable mill rate. There comes a point under the immutable laws of the Bell shaped Laffer curve that dictate a collection threshold. Once equilibrium is reached less taxes are collected, and sadly that threshold is also under assault as the Federal and state government also add to the tax burden of ordinary CT citizens.

The best course of action we can take to alleviate the pressure of these problems is to rebuild our school district under the principles of the New Urbanization Initiative, and Smart Growth while interest rates are low. Once those rates rise our window of opportunity will be closed and Hartford will have to beg the Federal Government to fund our schools. The alternative is over taxation and the fostering of one of the largest underground economies America has ever seen.

Peter Schiff Opens State HQ In Milford

Libertarian Republican Peter Schiff will be opening his campaign HQ in Milford, CT on Old Gate Lane right near the Independent Party HQ on New Haven Ave. Peter Schiff, has raised over $1.25 Million Dollars to run for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Christopher Dodd.

The opening of the Schiff HQ is Thursday December 17th 130 Old Gate Lane Unit A in Milford, CT. Several members of the Milford Independent Party will be in attendance including myself (Rocco J. Frank Jr.) to support Mr. Schiffs bid for the Senate.

The Independent HQ annex will also be working with Schiff's state HQ to assist in getting him elected. There are several contenders for the Republican nomination this year including WWF heavy weight contender Linda McMahon. The Republican State Central also has their favorite candidate Rob Simmons. Independents have entered Dr. John Mertens as their official Party Candidate. Peter Schiff's strategy has been to adopt a policy of Republican infiltration, as he views this as being more desirable than running on a 3rd party platform not embraced by the voters.

This policy was conveyed to the Connecticut Libertarian party where Schiff on occassion spoke. In his previous lecture he advised all Libertarians in the state of Connecticut, that if they were serious about winning elections they would be better off to disband and join forces with a major party. Doing so would provide for the Libertarian philosophy to embed itself into the Republican Party paradigm without taking on a 3rd party handicap.

Peter Schiff was also endorsed by Libertarian Republican Ron Paul, who gave us the now famous H.R. 1207 with 318 Co-Sponsors. This is the bill to audit the Federal Reserve. Paul endorsed Schiff after learning that his understanding of macroeconomic policies, combined with his stellar track record for economic predictions, earned him a position of high honor on just about every financial news network in America.

Milfords Schools In A Leadership Crisis

The New Republican dominated board of education is being sworn in today, and their first day on the job will be a nightmare. The crisis in leadership however is nothing new to some legacy board members who expunged the last Milford Superintendent in a similar swarm of controversy.

Harvey Polanski our Current Milford School Superintendent who won high and lavish praises from our mayor Jim Richetelli is now mired in a second wave of controversy. This time the Richetelli favorite is accused of lewd and lascivious acts toward two female Principals who made the allegations against our superintendent.

This is the second time this year that Mr. Polanski found himself in the news, for those who may have forgot last August he was investigated along with Republican Board of Education member Joanne Rhorig.

Rhorig resigned from the Board of Education after a firestorm of controversy occurred surrounding her household and numerous allegations of illegal activity. Charges were made that Polanski attended a party where known sexual predators lived, and underage drinking was ongoing in his presence.

Harvey Polanski is currently put on administrative leave. This occurred after an emergency closed door session of the Board of Education voted on an emergency response to the two principals allegations.

According to local sources an outside investigative agency will be hired at an undisclosed sum of taxpayer money. The investigators are expected to conduct a fact finding inquiry into the allegations made by the two Milford principals.

The Milford School System, will temporarily be under the direction of Michael Cummings the Assistant Superintendent. Larry Schaeffer previously took the post once before after our former Superintendent of Schools Gregory A. Firn "exercised poor judgment" and undermined confidence in his leadership by his handling of a situation involving a coach accused of sexual assault.

The board said "Firn's actions regarding a letter of recommendation for former coach Robert Dulin would be considered in the Superintendent's contract negotiations in June." Firn later Resigned of his own recognisance.

This years case may be much more egregious and prove to be an even poorer choice of a candidate for Milford's top paying job should these allegations be proven true. Aggregate factors already overshadowing our current Superintendents administration has also been the terrible results of the CAPT test scores, a test vital to the graduation of Milford's High School students.

The Republican dominated administration holds a majority on every board in the city of Milford except the Planning and Zoning board of which they hold an even stake. The rebuilding of our schools leadership will be at the helm of the incoming administration.

Most onlookers in the know, however, have been less than impressed with the Richetelli record on education of which now includes the towns second Superintendent being mired in troubles, failing CAPT test scores, standing room protests over 180 teachers having their employment threatened, objections over the Jonathan the Law additions, and controversy over media aides being let go and then rehired.

Time To Get Out And Vote

The early morning voting in the Milford election was weak, but nonetheless the day is not yet over. If you have not voted, please do go out and vote. Milford cannot prosper without people caring enough about our democratic process enough to do so.

Spalthoff, Milford's Best Candidate For Mayor

Traditionally I have never really been in the practice of endorsing any candidates, but this year with so many great contenders I thought adding my personal opinion might benefit many of you out there who have not had time to do the research or watch the debate videos.

Hard as it is to believe the election is only a few days away, and soon thousands of Milfordites will be storming in the voting booths and voting for their candidates. To help ease the anxiety of looking at a voter card with a bunch of faceless names, I am going to give you my thoughts on each of the candidates.

Before I begin it is important for me to give you my disclaimer, currently I am on the ballot in the First district as the Independent candidate for the board of education. However, my views and opinions are based solely on my own research and personal attendance of the mayoral debates, personally speaking with every candidate, and reading what local newspapers represented about each of them.

My assessment is as Follows:

Genevieve Salvatore: She is a relatively new citizen here in Milford, and many people do not yet really know her very well. Genevieve serves on the Economic Development Commission and practices law here in town.

Genevieve won an overwhelming vote from her party over longtime resident Tim Chaucer and received the endorsement from our U.S. Representative Rosa Delauro. Salvatore was also recently endorsed by the New Haven Reigister over Incumbent Mayor Jim Richetelli.

Her views are very favorable toward a local green economy, and has pledged a policy of zero based budgeting to keep taxes affordable on our cities struggling people. These two views are also complimented by Spalthoff.

Problems I personally have with Ms. Salvatore is her newcomer status, but more grave than that is her friendship with Rosa Delauro and Chris Dodd. In the coming years Milford and the state of Connecticut are expected to have a challenging relationship with a failing federal government. Dodd was recently ostracized over his banking relationships and Delauro has been pushing a bill "The Food Modernization and Safety Act" that would put all our local farms under Corporate and Federal control.

The Democratic Party, has also been involved in the negative and misleading campaign that borders on the actions of an impish spectacle. Their theatrical engagement of the Republicans has not sat well with many people who are concerned about the issues in town.

For these reasons, and even though I think Genevieve is a stellar person, I will always have some discomfort over her parties negative influence, in tandem with her ability to challenge Federal Democratic leaders, especially in a crisis situation.

Jim Richetelli: Last Election I supported Richetelli and had a sign of his on my lawn. He has been our mayor for many terms, and in the past has done a great job in leading our city. Personally I would like to thank him and acknowledge up front all of the great work he has done. However, we vote in the present and we look to the future. The very fact that Jim lost the endorsement of the Register, a paper that endorsed him so many times before was a testament as to the political climate that exists today.

This year Jim has been called out time again over Taxes, educational cuts, historical preservation, business audits, absenteeism, and contract negotiations. Two of the three debates I have been to (in my opinion) have not been very favorable for Richetelli. (You are free to view them on this site just refer to the archives.)

The latest challenge our Mayor experienced was the Democrats and the Republicans engagement of an intensely negative campaign whereby voters are being deliberately confused and misinformed with negative information about their opponents.

Voters I believe have grown tired of this practice and just want to hear the issues and the facts. Jim being the incumbent has a terrific re-election advantage this year, but I personally believe that advantage has been diminished.

Tim Chaucer:Tim is a lifelong resident of Milford, he worked tirelessly trying to support and protect our cities historic properties and open space. Chaucer has been very critical of the destruction of the Cadley House, and the development of the property next to the Milford Library.

Personally I have spoke with Tim and found him to be a sincere person, however, in my opinion, he has a narrow view of interests in our town. Tim is also running as an "Unaffiliated" candidate since he lost the support of his primary political party to Genevieve Salvatore.

Tim took the loss in my view too easily, early on he struggled with the idea of a primary and then opted out instead of standing by his convictions that he was treated unfairly by his party.

Personally I found Chaucer to be a great person with much to offer Milford and even though I think he is the weakest candidate I sincerely hope that he stays involved and continues to fight along with us for what he believes in.

His views on open land purchasing, historic preservation and city planning are supported by all candidates across the board and we will need his expertise on future committees and at council meetings, should he not prevail.

Chaucer can certainly be a unifying force with his broad knowledge on keeping Milford's growth in harmony with our history. Personally I would look forward to Tim's continued involvement in those areas as his message was well received and he certainly proved himself as an asset to our city.

Peter Spalthoff: Peter is my personal favorite, not because he is an Independent but because of his selfless nature, investment in our community, and financial background in understanding debt, contracts, loans and financial instruments.

Of all the candidates in the running Peter has run a very ethical and honest campaign. Peter has pledged transparency in government, and adopted a policy that puts "people first." Every week new letters arrive to our local newspapers in support of Peter. His candidacy as an Independent has been larger than any that I remember in recent memory.

Peter also represents a realistic new choice for the growing number of people in town who have become despondent with the two party system. Peter's list of endorsements is also impressive, and he is the only mayor in CT to receive the official endorsement of the state Independent Party and the Independent American Party.

Peter's skills will be needed in the coming years especially with the 110 Million in financing that will be needed for our school improvements. Peter is also very open minded and works well with others. His most recent post in a political party was the chairman of the Republican Town Committee, but due to his own disappointment with the Republican party decided to reinvigorate the ranks of the Independents here in Milford.

When Peter Made his campaign announcement on the green early this year, he invoked the spirit of the late Charles Iovino. Iovino was the only Independent mayoral candidate in Connecticut's history to win a Mayoral election as a write in candidate.

Your vote this election will count more than before, and I personally hope you will lend that support to Peter Spalthoff My choice for this years Mayor.

A Message From Steve Borer

My name is Steve Borer and I'm Running for the Milford Board of Alderman (first district) in the upcoming election. I'm doing the best job I can to prepare myself to be the best city Alderman I can be.

Hopefully you will also support my colleagues who have established the Independent Party for the benefit of our town. They are great hard working people and have earned your overwhelming support on election day.

This year certainly there are numerous issues that have invoked strong feelings in us. Under ordinary circumstances it would be important to discuss the details of each and every one of these issues, but today's circumstances are extraordinary, but not so terrible as to diminish our ability to handle our local problems.

Perhaps it is now fair to say that many are in agreement that our economy is in bad shape, the U.S. dollar does not buy as much as it used to, and ordinary middle class citizens are under duress. America as a nation has never seen its sovereignty and reputation this challenged, at least not in my lifetime as an American.

The future will certainly bring these problems to our local community, and it is therefore my commitment to be focused on the importance of working together, and taking care of our community first and foremost. It is also important for us to act now, and get involved with issues in Washington and protest the Federal changes soon to be induced upon our small city. Time is running out, and our Congressmen and Senators need to hear from you.

For today I am driven by my optimism and belief that we as a community can stick together, work as a team and make it through the next few years. I also would like to challenge you this election year and ask that you stand with us in sending our Washington leaders a strong message. This message simply entails you voting out the the two party system and helping us forge the foundation of a new Independent party outside of Washington's control and influence.

Since I believe that all politics are local, and it's fair to say that those in Washington, who will soon be responsible for all our upcoming hardships, will be unable to live up to their repertoire of shattered dreams, and broken promises, I therefore expect you will be there to vote different. Our community once again, and as in years past, will be forced to function by way of our own provisions.

Our people are NOT HAPPY with the present policies or direction taken by our National leaders. Would'nt it be nice, to just know, that the road to our nations rebirth began with your support of one small Independent movement at a time? Milford could very well be that community. All it takes is your vote, your support, and your willingness to speak out to your friends and family.

Never will I underestimate the power of determined people, especially those who work together to care for their most important assets... their families, their friends, our city and our country. Milford, in the past, was one of those cities that made history by electing the late Charles Iovino an Independent WRITE IN candidate.

Perhaps it was your fathers or grandfathers that pledged their support to Independents so many years ago. Today I ask of you to embrace the spirit of those who remember and came before you. On November Third go out and vote Independent, because now is the time to raise a rift and make big headlines once again!

The Milford Independent Party Celebrates Its Grand Opening With A Surprise Endorsement

The Milford Independent Party was standing room only at its 26 Broad Street location, the families and friends of all the candidates attended what was a very informative and spectacular event.

Most notable guests included a surprise visit from The Senior Agent of the Connecticut Independent Party Mike Terlesca. Mike Telesca, added the State Party endorsement of Peter Spalthoff to his already growing list of local endorsements.

For those who do not know Mr. Telesca, he started the Independent Party in Waterbury Ct, and has gone on to win several local city positions for his party. Recently Mr. Teslesca was asked to consult for the state of Connecticut regarding the Green Party Lawsuit against the Citizens election campaign.

The Fledgling state program was remarkably impressed with Mr. Telesca because with his leadership last year he helped qualify the only 3rd. Party candidates in the state of Connecticut for public funding.

Mr. Telesca is a dynamo in the realm of third party politics in the state of Connecticut and his endorsement of Peter Spalthoff as the only Mayoral endorsement in the state of Connecticut is truly a great compliment to Peter.

July 4Th Celebration At The Post Mall

This year the July Fourth tradition of the Westfield Post Mall fireworks show was on schedule. The fireworks were launched right after dusk and lasted about 15 Minutes and boasted a grand finale.

Kids also entertained themselves at the town Carnival with rides, and a Ferris wheel in the mall parking lot. Viewers of the fireworks were located in multiple shopping plazas near the mall. My vantage point was behind Stop & Shop in the Staples parking lot. The event was well attended and people from all over came to our town to witness the show.

This event is an annual tradition and is expected to be on again on July 4Th 2010.

Amann Still In Governors Race

Despite a passing mention that he had dropped out of the race for governor in this now-corrected New London Day editorial, a spokesman for former Speaker of the House James Amann said Monday that nothing could be further from the truth.

“Jim Amann for Governor 2010 is coming off a banner week and plans to be attending events all over the state this week as well,” wrote Patrick Scully, Amann’s communications director, in an emailed statement. “Jim has noticed the energy and momentum of the campaign is higher than ever.”

“As he moves forward in the coming months, there will be dozens of media appearances, fundraisers, town committee meetings, endorsements, (eventually debates when the others are done ‘exploring’) and just plain fun local events,” Scully said.

Scully’s statement goes on to say:

As fine a journalist as Morgan McGinley of The Day of New London is, he missed the mark badly on this one and started a political rumor—the type that spreads like wildfire. Ironically, the exact opposite of what Morgan wrote (that Amann has dropped out) is true. Jim Amann is the only declared candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor; the only one who has a headquarters open and operating. He knows Democrats want to nominate a candidate who can win the general election, not the same faces with the same results.

I wish, in the future, Morgan would give me a call. Fact-checking matters. I have been assured by an embarrassed editor at The Day that a correction will run in the print edition and online. They will also print my letter to the editor.

Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy and Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz have also set up exploratory committees to seek the Democratic nomination. Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell has an exploratory committee set up, but has not officially announced her intention to run for re-election.

Senate Approves Taking Governor’s Appointment Power, Declines Ethics Rule

by Christine Stuart: The state Senate approved a bill Friday morning 21-12, which would require a US Senate vacancy to be filled by a special election, instead of gubernatorial appointment.

Sen. Gayle Slossberg, D-Milford, said the bill returns the power to elect a US Senator to the people of Connecticut. Since the 1940s the power to appoint a US Senator has resided with the governor, but recent scandals like the one in Illinois over Barack Obama’s vacant senate seat has given the concept of holding a special election more momentum than in previous years. The bill now heads to the House for a approval.

Also Republicans tried to change the rules of the Senate to create a bipartisan committee of ethics to allow for senators to be disciplined by their peers.

The Republican move comes on the heels of two recent election complaints against two Democratic senators who were noticeably absent during the debate and vote Friday morning.

Sen. Thomas Gaffey, D-Meriden, who was fined $6,000 in March for double-billing the state and his own political action committee for expenses related to his attendance at legislative conferences, and Sen. Joseph Crisco, D-Woodbridge, who was fined $4,000 this week for violating state election laws related to his re-election campaign, were both absent.

Sen. Minority Leader John McKinney, R-Southport, predicted that the resolution to change the rules would be defeated, but tried to remind his Democratic colleagues that once upon a time, the concept was something they supported.

Sen. President Donald Williams, D-Brooklyn, said it opens the doors to frivolous complaints against any of the 36 senators. He said it means even if someone believed a rumor was true they couldn’t be held responsible for making a false statement against a senator. McKinney said he met with Williams earlier in the day Thursday and would have agreed to limit who was able to file complaints to the 36 senators in the circle.

The idea of a bipartisan committee on Senate ethics first came up at the end of 2007 when former Sen. Louis DeLuca admitted to asking a man with mafia-ties to beat up his granddaughter’s husband because he thought she was being abused. A six-member panel, three Senators from each party, was appointed to determine whether to recommend a censure, reprimand, or expulsion. DeLuca ended up resigning before the committee made its final recommendation.

Support for changing the Senate’s rules to create a permit bipartisan committee on ethics seems to have faded since.

The bill failed mostly along party lines by a vote of 13-20, with only one Democrat, Sen. Ed Meyer, D-Guilford, voting for it.

Dogs Vs. Horses at Eisenhower Park

Eisenhower Park in Milford is about the only really great place to take my dog for a hike, and on the North side of the park there even is a small "off-leash" fenced in area.

Lately the Horses and their riders have been at odds with dogs that are "off-leash." Some dog owners have been threatened with fines and some dogs have been allegedly hospitalized as a result of horses viciously kicking them.

Some stories I heard speak of a harmless punt of a dog by horse, and others more severe, including broken bones, internal injury and in some cases death. Recently I asked if anyone could share their personal opinion of this menace and offer any of their thoughts regarding the "horse vs. dog" issue. The most interesting response I heard was as follows.

"The place it's big enough for both. Talk to the major and he may be able to come with something that you can agree on...Like drawing a line for horses and another for the dogs . We all need boundaries, even horses and dogs...Thank God for people like me that are so intelligent...!"

This was a great suggestion, I love the idea of drawing a line and I also love the idea of an "off leash" area but my dog Bella likes to swim and there is no water in the fenced in area. I feel like her day is that much more fulfilling when she takes a dip in the river and shakes off on the grass.

Inevitably I think horses and Dogs will always be at odds, and for good reason Horses get spooked by them, riders also get nervous the dogs will be harmed by their horses kicking or worse themselves, as riders, thrown. Thankfully I have not learned of any real horror stories involving riders being injured because of dogs but I accept that their is a risk. For this reason I trained my dog to come when I call her and when I sense danger leash her until the horse passes.

If anyone insists on letting their dog loose I would stress to please respectfully leash your dog if you see a horse approaching, all it takes in one bad accident and strict enforcement against dog owners will commence. Dogs and horses can get along if we practice common sense and avoid potential hazards.

Bulk Pick Up This May 6Th

Mayor James L. Richetelli, Jr. has announced that the city will begin its 2009 Bulk Waste Pickup Program on May 6.

The Bulk Waste Program has been funded for two pickups per year: May and September. The May pickup is intact. However, the Board of Aldermen is currently debating the fiscal year 2009-10 budget that could cut the September schedule if aldermen do not fund it, the city said in a prepared statement.
All homeowners are asked to honor the schedule and not place bulk waste at the curb any sooner than 24 hours prior to their scheduled pickup.

The schedule is: if you garbage day is Monday, pick up is May 6; for Tuesday garbage days, pick up is May 13; for Thursday, May 20, for Friday, May 27.
Call the Public Works Office at 783-3265, the Monday before your pick up if you have goods such as stoves, refrigerators, dishwasher, hot water heaters and other similar appliances.

Tax Day Tea Party Coming To Connecticut

The kettle is brewing and about to boil over this April 15Th at a city near Milford. Years of taxation without representation, excessive wasteful spending, looting of our treasury and runaway debt on the backs of countless future generations of children are what is on the hearts and minds of the American people.

Congress and its 9% approval rating, both our state Senators Dodd and Lieberman now publicly despised for their party betrayal and cronyism to banks and the war agenda's are seeing their campaigns in trouble next election cycle.

These tea parties are part of a grass roots movement comprised of not one single leader but many brave citizens who are angry and wish to organize their local communities to exercise their First Amendment rights. Baxter Pharmaceutical Claimed they accidently released live H5N1 bird flu in human Flu vaccines. This error, criticized as impossible by world medical experts, is now a serious and grave risk to people everywhere.

The virus was introduced in a manner that renders it capabable of not only infecting people, but potentially mutating into an airborne form that can be transmitted to others the same way the seasonal flu does.

This error was discovered by a Baxter subcontractor who conducted tests of the vaccine on live animals who all died. After this discovery he notified his superiors, who discovered the live H5N1 virus in the vaccine. The story then made it to the highest levels of the pharmaceudical industry, and eventually made the press.

A Novel Solution To The State Deficit

Some time ago about a year ago today to be precise I said that the economy and local businesses would falter. As our clueless leaders balk at the balanced budged amendment to the state constitution, they shutter at the thought of eliminating yet another 3 billion dollars from our state economy.

The impossible mission is to balance the budget and still have friends show up to your party at the local club. With the new legislature expected to arrive into session in the coming weeks, baptism by fire is apropos in lieu of the burgeoning budget catastrophe. But perhaps there is hope, and in times of turmoil it is always good to think "outside the box" something I think I may be good at.

But here is the big idea, and this idea is based on all the technology that I find so annoying. These include texting on your cell phone, X-Box, and like gaming consoles, dollar menu garbage food, game shows, Facebook, Myspace and of course the I-Pod and all those annoying musical devices that cloak people into the matrix of technology.

Safe to say that these technologies have become, in my opinion, as irritating as people who smoke near others, and drink until they have no friends and a reputation for drunkenness. This brings me to the point, how many people would object to being ejected or "taxed out" of the technology matrix.

The countless hours people and kids spend disconnecting from reality is really a disgrace, and on occasion I could personally say that I have witnessed the "looneyness" of texting friends and relatives in the same house. The cellular companies are getting wealthy with this trend alone, and the music industry is cashing in a good sum by selling 99 cent songs, the video game industry is already in "hot water" and is being forced to label their games, and even have recalled some like "San Andreas" a version of a killer road rage game called "Grand Theft Auto."

With our state leaders calling for a "balanced budged" i.e. Gov. Rell and Cafero, who wish to achieve this without raising taxes, should at least consider implementing a win/win tax approach to the financial malaise now at hand.

Nothing would give me more pleasure than to see a new tax implemented against the digital matrix of society. This in my opinion would be a blessing, a tax that makes gizmo's more of a luxury than a commodity. This of course could be thinly disguised as the lifeline our state so desperately needs. Why not tax it into the abyss? And as a last note stop sending "weed" smokers to prison for years and years shorten their sentence these people are "stoned" and the punishment does not fit the crime 3-6 months is plenty. Lots of savings there at $55,000.00 P/Y per prisoner.
