Democrats Demonize Richetelli's Addiction Issues

All one has to do is look at the barrage of articles today at the Connecticut Post and you will read a sad tale of Democratic charges of Mayoral accusations, insinuations, and claims of dereliction of duty.

Richard Smith the Democratic Party Chairman has made Richetelli's fight with addiction a matter of partisan politics. Smith alleged that had our Mayor not been preoccupied with his addiction issues the city of Milford would have qualified for more stimulus money.

Democrats allege that Compared to other towns who were on the ball Milford got less stimulus benefits. Freedom of information requests are reeling in by the Democrats, and the Republicans said they intend to comply, however the documentation requested is voluminous and may not be available until after the election.

The Republicans also Responded with THIS press release claiming that the democrats have it all wrong, that they were the ones who declined the funding to Eisenhower Park because the money came from U.S. Sen. Lieberman whom the Milford Democrats are angry with. Richetelli charged that Lieberman's betrayal of Lamont was the main reason why they declined funds for Eisenhower park.

The Democrats however were not persuaded by Richetelli's remarks and continued to insist that his addiction to an "un-named" prescription drug and his flight to a Maryland rehab is the real cause of his lack of effectiveness in delivering the Federal funds.

With all these heated exchanges in play, Tim Chaucer the Petitioning Candidate for Mayor jumped into the Melee and charged that Richetelli was "sleeping at the wheel" in (THIS article) when he allowed a developer to purchase the space next to the library. Chaucer said that that space could have been 22 now needed parking spaces for the library and not purchasing the land was a mistake. He claimed Richetelli was not interested or involved in keeping that lot.

Richetelli has been under a steady attack since his first Debate where he was accused of contributing to the destruction of the Cadley House, allowing complacency in the Building Department, falsely taking credit for this years tax decrease, and not supporting Jonathan Law's educational infrastructure.

Much to Peter Spalthoff's credit, he did not take sides, or jump into the partisan character thrashing from both Republicans and Democrats. Spalthoff instead focused on the issues affecting our community and gave his opinion as if he were the mayor at the time.

The Democrats have now reached a new low by engaging in what may be perceived as an intensely negative campaign making Richetelli's drug problem the focal point of their press releases. Truly a sad way to run an election, perhaps it would be best if all candidates just focus on the issues and refrain from personal attacks.

Chris Dodd Still Draws Fire

Senator Dodd in an effort to recover from the repercussions of the "Dodd Clause" of the AIG contract is still drawing fire. Dodd was accused of allowing AIG executives to pay contractual bonuses with taxpayer bailout money.

For obvious reasons, the general public is outraged over this practice. Had AIG entered bankruptcy protection chances are that none of those bonuses would have ever been paid. Under bankruptcy law AIG could have been forced to restructure itself, and as a result been able to legally not give bonuses to the people responsible for the global economic "Melt Down."

The pandemonium of fear in Washington however, took control of AIG and nearly 3/4 of its stock. AIG was deemed too important of a company, and as such categorized as of "too big to fail." Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben Bernake (A self proclaimed expert on the Great Depression) said the "bailout was the right thing to do because a lack of a bailout during the Great Depression is what induced the economic hardship on Main Street."

Peter Schiff, a potential contender against Chris Dodd and expected to have raised his first One Million Dollars on line, said that "Bernake's actions just put off our economic problems to a later date and more severe consequences are later expected." Schiff suggested the Federal Reserves motto ought to be "What America has succeeded in creating is not an economy impervious to shocks, but merely one which enables their consequences to be postponed to a later date."
Schiff may be running against a full slate of Republican contenders, including Rob Simmons, Linda McMahon (Owner of the WWF), and others who have yet to formally announced.

The Connecticut waters are certainly filled with sharks, and a wounded Chris Dodd is entrenched in a moat as he is under fire from his many critics. One such critic Senator John Cornin put this advertisement on Google titled "Dump Dodd." These public criticisms in tandem with the public view are responsible for eroding his approval rating to a record low of under 41%. and many political science experts are of the opinion this very well could be his last term.

Dodd has also announced that he is ill with prostate cancer, and as such earned the kind supportive words of many local leaders including Gubernatorial candidate Jim Amann and all who wish him well. Some are concerned that Dodd may have an epiphany and realize his re-election is futile. He may ultimately decide to retire on his own terms. However honorable this may be, (especially in lieu of the acrimonious nature of the general public and their sentiments toward is work in the last few years) it is not likely to happen.

"I ventured out on Saturday to take in the excitement of the Oyster Fest. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and spent money, but not a fortune. Love the firefighters-always loud and obnoxious to get you to throw the ball and knock them into the water! I heard some mild disappointment coming from people who couldn't walk outside the designated area with their beers. I also heard people lamenting the lack of shaded areas to eat down on Fowler. I walked around and ran into all kinds of people I know including the illustrious mayor of Milford, Jim Richetelli. Did not see Jimmy Amann anywhere, but did see his signs everywhere. He's gonna have a tough battle with Mama Rell! Overall, it was a fun day filled with popcorn, bubbles, family and friends. Thanks for the opportunity to have a relaxing day! See you next year! Milford's Al Dente Gets A Parking Deal

The Planning and Zoning Board has approved a “shared parking” proposal in Devon, which will allow Al Dente’s Restaurant the use of five municipal spaces in a lot the eatery’s owners sold to the Devon Revitalization Committee earlier this year.

Mayor James L. Richetelli Jr. said the lease agreement between the city and Joseph Arcudi, Christina D’Archangelo and Daniel Bagley, the owners of Al Dente, was needed to ensure the eatery was still in compliance with city parking requirements.

Earlier this year, the Devon Revitalization Commission purchased a lot at 120 Bridgeport Ave. from the restaurant owners in an effort to create much-needed parking opportunities downtown. The committee paid $160,000 in state money for the land, which was expected to provide 12 new spaces.

Richetelli said as part of the continuing streetscape improvements in Devon, especially along Naugatuck Avenue, the city needed an easement through Al Dente’s, and the restaurant ended up losing five spaces. As a result, the city agreed to lease the restaurant five of the newly created municipal spaces.

“It will be a non-exclusive use. If someone wants to park and go somewhere else, they can,” Richetelli said. “It’s very common downtown, the idea of shared parking.”

Richetelli said the municipal lot now is serving as a staging area for the streetscape upgrades along Naugatuck Avenue. He said the lot has been re-engineered and will accommodate 17 vehicles, instead of 12. Riche�telli said he hopes the lot will be available for public use in the fall.

The zoning board voted unanimously to approve the lease agreement.

PZB Vice Chairwoman Kim Rose, D-3, said she did not vote because she was acting as the board’s chairman for the evening, but she personally does not believe in shared parking.

“I know that’s not popular,” Rose said.

Rose said sacrificing five municipal spots would adversely affect nearby businesses. But PZB member Kevin Liddy, R-4, said he thinks the deal “shows the city works well with private enterprise for a win-win situation.”

Numbers Put Malloy And Bysiewicz In Front, Amann Trails

Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy who is exploring a run for governor in 2010 raised $144,135 during the last three months and Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz isn’t far behind having raised $141,005 during that same period.

Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell raised $20,010 over the last three months and since forming her exploratory committee Rell has raised a total of $90,463. Since starting their exploratory committees in February Malloy has raised a total of $272,210 and Bysiewicz has raised a total of $239,530.

It’s unclear at the moment how much former Speaker of the House James Amann has raised. Amann’s campaign manager, Jim McMahon, said Friday that Amann has had one fundraiser to date, but has another half-dozen scheduled over the next few months.

“It’s no longer about fundraising,” McMahon said Friday referring to the new public campaign finance system. “It’s about raising enough money to qualify for the state grant.”

Amann, whose campaign is already out of the exploratory phase is the only declared candidate in the race and as such has to follow different fundraising guidelines than those still in the exploratory phase. Contributors to Amann’s campaign are only allowed to give a maximum of $100, while Malloy, Bysiewicz and Rell can receive contributions of up to $375. However, if they make the transition to a candidate committee only the $5 to $100 contributions will count toward the qualifying amount of $250,000.

Candidates who raise $250,000 are then eligible for $1 million in public funds for the primary and $3 million for the general election.

McMahon said he doesn’t have the final numbers yet, but says Amann has been traveling around the state “solidifying a tremendous amount of support.”

“Our state faces many challenges and I am pleased that so many citizens agree that it is time for real leadership in Hartford,” Bysiewicz said. She said she has traveled the state and visited with close to 70 Democratic Town Committees asking for support for the Democratic nomination next year.

Malloy has visited 62 Democratic Town Committees since forming his exploratory committee in February.

“I’m gratified and energized by this outpouring of financial support as I continue to explore a run for Governor,” Malloy said. “Over the past two quarters, our fundraising has been consistent, steady, and successful.”

Alan Jepson Retiring From City Clerk

There is no greater icon in town than our beloved city clerk Alan Jepson. For most of his life Jepson served the town of Milford in various offices, including the duty of our Mayor.

Jepsons retirement marks an end to over Twenty years of service as Milford's City Clerk. These memories are none the less fonder around this time of year, because on the 4Th of July Alan would dress the part of Uncle Sam at out town celebration and greet residents at the gazebo on the green. For the first time in many years the man under the beard and hat will be someone else, as Alan will not be doing it again.

Alan is at the age where he is ready for retirement, but those in the Independent Party here in Milford have stated that Jepsons retirement has also brought some challenges for those individuals who are seeking to replace him.

The job of City Clerk will be passed on, and some popular names are emerging as contenders for the post. The Democrats are expected to put up Currently Serving State Rep. Richard Roy. Roy, who has not formally announced he will retire from the the House if elected Clerk, has the option of holding both jobs. This will allow Roy to earn a salary estimated at $130,000.00 per year. This of course, also comes with benefits from the state as well as the city of Milford. This would make a Roy win a very lucrative proposition.

According to the Democrats, the position of City Clerk is "Settled" and they are expecting no Republican contender, this they indicated on their blog is the "tradition." Of course the blog post has been removed as of today, but none the less the allegation now stands and no known Republican contender exists yet.

The Independent Party in Milford, is questioning the the practice of "Cross Endorsements" and the practice of "holding multiple elected offices." Should someone like Dick Roy run for, and succeed in his bid for City Clerk the people of Milford could be denied the exclusivity of that office, instead sharing Mr. Roy with the state legislature if he fails to resign. The Independent Contender for City Clerk Michael Konopka has indicated he will give the people of Millford "110% of his attention," hence meeting the expectations of the job and the needs of the public.

This Democratic practice of "double dipping" was seen once before when Gubernatorial contender Jim Amann attempted to take a $120,000.00 job as the new CT House Speaker Donovan's assistant. This job was to be accomplished in tandem with his private sector job working as a fund raiser for a Charity and Running for Governor with the funds (3 Million Dollars) he expects to receive from a CEP grant.

Even though the city of Milford will miss our endeared City Clerk Alan Jepson, the voters need to be vigilant against the shenanigans of party politics here in town. The public pays the City Clerk very well for a reason. That reason has more to do with the fact that it is a full time job that demands a great deal of time and responsibility.

That responsibility also includes attending Board of Alderman meetings as Jepson did very well. Placing a person in this office, who also holds the job of a State Representative will surely find conflicts in his ability to attend the aldermanic meetings. This will also limit the amount of time he can spend at his desk in the Clerks office. The Clerk needs to be available to personally sign important documents, and this should be noted when discussion as to the individual candidates career choices arises and the condoning of absenteeism. They need not be the problem of Milford's Taxpayers.

Democrats Allege Cross Endorsements From Republicans

The following quote was published at the Milford Democrats website the issue comes up time and again in relation to "cross endorsements." We know a few short years ago the Republicans gave a DE-FACTO cross endorsement of Amann when they ran no one against him. We also know Milford Republicans and Democrats make deals with each other around election time. The Independent Party points these facts out all too well and the quotation below just proves yet again that there is a false "left-right" paradigm here in Milford.

Republicans Will Not Cross-Endorse Kim Rose for City Clerk

"Milford Republicans will not be cross endorsing this year’s Democratic candidate for City Clerk. During the last few elections, Republicans did cross-endorse Alan Jepson but Mr. Jepson was a unique individual who had an outstanding record serving the city of Milford for many years and had conducted the affairs of his office in a truly non-partisan fashion. Republicans did what they felt was best for the city.

It appears that there are two possible Democratic candidates for City Clerk. No one has ever accused Kim Rose of being non-partisan and Dick Roy seems to view the office as a way to supplement his state pension. Mr. Roy may deserve thanks for his years of service in the state assembly but not a $71,443 a year golden parachute."

Scully’s Departs From Amann Campaign

Patrick Scully, who joined former Speaker of the House James Amann’s gubernatorial campaign in January, says he is no longer working for the campaign.

“I am no longer employed by the Amann campaign because of lack of funding,” Scully said in a phone interview Friday. “I don’t have time to work for free.” Scully said he is working on building his consulting company and his departure in no way “negates my thoughts of the candidate.”

Scully’s departure does raise questions about the viability of Amann’s campaign, although Amann scoffed at that idea on Friday. Amann said the campaign dismissed Scully for reasons he refused to discuss on the record, not vice-a-versa.
Scully said the campaign owes him “five figures,” which could conceivably be a problem because, based the campaign report filed at the end of April, Amann’s campaign had $4,110 cash on hand.

“We’re doing fine,” Amann said. “We’re moving forward.” He said in the old days he would have raised $250,000 by now, but things are different under the new public finance system, under which Amann said it was difficult to spend money in the exploratory phase. That’s why the campaign switched over to a candidate committee, but in the process forfeited more than $20,000.

Under the new rules if the amount a candidate rolls over from an exploratory committee exceeds the total amount of qualifying small-dollar checks received, then the difference goes back to the state election fund. Amann transferred $35,488 from his exploratory committee into his candidate committee, but he had only raised about $9,545 in qualifying contributions of $100 or less causing him to lose more than $25,000.

“It was a mistake,” Scully said of the campaign’s decision to switch from an exploratory to candidate committee so quickly.

Amann’s opponents — Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy and Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz — are still exploring a run for governor. Malloy’s campaign had about $105,297 cash on hand and Bysiewicz about $83,357 at the end of April.
But Amann, who has already opened up his campaign headquarters in Milford, said “we’re the only ones in the race.”

The last time Quinnipiac University polled residents on the 2010 gubernatorial match-up was back in February. At that time 79 percent didn’t know enough about Amann to have an opinion. Bysiewicz was the early favorite in a Democratic primary with 44 percent of the vote, followed by Malloy with 12 percent and Amann with 4 percent. Another 36 percent are undecided.

The same poll showed Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell beating Amann 61 to 21 percent. On Friday Amann said he had hundreds of volunteers working for him and has plans for at least two fundraisers this summer.

Amann Still In Governors Race

Despite a passing mention that he had dropped out of the race for governor in this now-corrected New London Day editorial, a spokesman for former Speaker of the House James Amann said Monday that nothing could be further from the truth.

“Jim Amann for Governor 2010 is coming off a banner week and plans to be attending events all over the state this week as well,” wrote Patrick Scully, Amann’s communications director, in an emailed statement. “Jim has noticed the energy and momentum of the campaign is higher than ever.”

“As he moves forward in the coming months, there will be dozens of media appearances, fundraisers, town committee meetings, endorsements, (eventually debates when the others are done ‘exploring’) and just plain fun local events,” Scully said.

Scully’s statement goes on to say:

As fine a journalist as Morgan McGinley of The Day of New London is, he missed the mark badly on this one and started a political rumor—the type that spreads like wildfire. Ironically, the exact opposite of what Morgan wrote (that Amann has dropped out) is true. Jim Amann is the only declared candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor; the only one who has a headquarters open and operating. He knows Democrats want to nominate a candidate who can win the general election, not the same faces with the same results.

I wish, in the future, Morgan would give me a call. Fact-checking matters. I have been assured by an embarrassed editor at The Day that a correction will run in the print edition and online. They will also print my letter to the editor.

Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy and Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz have also set up exploratory committees to seek the Democratic nomination. Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell has an exploratory committee set up, but has not officially announced her intention to run for re-election.

Jim Amann Gets "Hooked Up" With Controversial New Job.

Just when many Amman objectors thought "good riddance" to the former Speakers departure from politics a new surprise today. The Connecticut Post announced that the Speaker may have all along confirmed many suspicions and conspired against his colleagues in Hartford by using his former post for personal gain via a shady side deal.

The jaw dropping announcement puts current Speaker Donovan in an "unholy relationship" with his new consultant Jim Amann. While he may think he unwittingly outwitted and outflanked the ethics of his office, many of his colleagues, including top ranking Republicans are speechless this week.

The money trail is clear, $39K as Speaker or $120K as a consultant to the new Speaker. Aside from the fact that this denotes the epitome of Cronyism in the "N-Th" degree I would suggest we remember that Jim has always been at odds with his critics, including some Democrats who drove a hearse to Milford city hall to protest his run for governor.

To remember the past, he involved himself with a criminal gangster Joe Gentile as part of Hollywood East, an unproven debacle that is yet to produce more income than it depletes from our state in tax credits. That not being bad enough he also decided to openly and brazenly play the part of a gangster when he was caught on video speaking about "Crushing" his "Idiot" opponents.

What is even more disconcerting is that Jim still gets 60K out of the MS coffers as a salary for raising money. Some have suggested that donating to his MS charity resulted in favorable legislation. That alleged there is still more mainly the lucritive Three Million Dollar CEF Governor grant, money he may use to run for a Job he has no chance of winning. It is my opinion that he knows this, so the big question is what will happen to this cash, how will it be spent and whose hands will it fall into. Could it be Donovan for helping him out with a high paying job?

Jim may be well on his way for setting himself up for the same criticism that ultimately led to the demise of the John Rowland Administration. Aside from the irregular nature and harsh criticism that his business dealings have drawn he has now proven to the academic community that education is not important in the way of political success, after all a college drop out can become a house Speaker as well as gain employment in a 120K job formerly set aside for true experts with years of study in many disciplines.

Some people, I have spoke with, indicated that Amann has always lacked the mathematical and accounting skills necessary to even understand the states fiscal picture. This criticism came center stage when Jim bilked the taxpayers of $50,000 because a scaffold was in the way of his party spot at the capitol.

Connecticut now mired with billions in debt will be advising our new Speaker on a subject he cannot explain beyond a few simple words. Jim is investing his popularity and charm at the expense of the good people of Connecticut.

For those who are not yet bothered it is important to point out that there is now a real cause for concern. Concern emanating from the effects of the Amann aggregate to the current rampant cronyism. This is surely to stand in the way of true qualified experts dedicated to scientifically fixing the states problems. Connecticut is rich with many talented people, brilliant in the understanding of practices and principles of macroeconomics, taxpayer relations, and balancing budgets.

When states fail to step up the plate and enact the practice of "hooking up their friends" with "sweet jobs" we fall victim to the crippling effects of failing government by way of crippling budget deficits like the ones we see now. These budget deficits are growing every minute of every day and if you wonder where this all leads just read this article it is frightening.

It is all too sad to quote.

With Amann Out Of Picture, Will Film Tax Credits Survive?

The former Speaker of the House certainly hopes so.

Just two days after handing the gavel over to the new Speaker of the House Chris Donovan, James Amann, who is not longer a legislator, returned to the state Capitol to attend a meeting of the Hollywood East task force that he created.

Amann who had trouble finding a parking space, since there was no longer one reserved for him said he wishes the lawmakers considering scaling back or eliminating the film industry tax credits would take a hard look at the data and visit some of the new studios.

“This thing is doing extremely well,” Amann said. However, the chairmen of the two budget committees sent out this press release Thursday stating that they have already begun an exhaustive review of the film industry credits to determine their value in an unsettled economy.

“The goal is to objectively determine if the state comes out ahead when the giveaways are matched up against the new business they generate,” Sen. Eileen Daily, D-Westbrook, said in the press release. And in fairness Daily, along with Appropriations Chairwoman Toni Harp, D-New Haven, both said they intend to weight the merit of all tax credits and tax exemptions this year.

Amann said he respects the lawmakers who may question the credits, however, they’re not here trying to get the information. “Why aren’t they taking the initiative?” Amann said.

He said since 2006 there have been 91 films made in Connecticut and 10 of them are up for Golden Globes. In fact, he said one of the films “Revolutionary Road” is up for film of the year.
The industry is growing, Amann said. He said everybody has to collectively put their data together, then they will see just how many jobs and economic activity were created by this credit.

Rep. Carlo Leone, D-Stamford, who chairs the Hollywood East task force, thanked Amann for all his hard work on the issue. In championing the film tax credits, Leone said the creation of jobs is the key winning public approval for these credits. He said as long as the task force and the industry get that message out then it will have the public on their side and will be able to convince lawmakers to keep the credits on the books.

Flooding In Devon Angers Residents

The Corner of Bridgeport Ave.and Naugatuck Ave. is a pretty wet spot in town. Residents in that area have been coming forward and complaining that their basements are flooding during periods of heavy rain.

The Devon Revitalization committee is taking the heat. Mayor Richetelli and Jim Amann the two most notable committee members have been put on the hot seat. Local residents have stated that the aesthetic improvements have not done much to improve the quality of life of those residents who are affected by the flood rains.

Our state and local leaders assured us flooding action this week. Both Amann and Richetelli indicated that they are aware of the flooding problems and blamed the areas pipes as being old. Richetelli said that these pipes carry away the rain water intended for a 1930's Milford and were not designed for today's neighborhoods. Richetelli also said the city has money for improvements on one street Naugatuck Ave., but the other street Bridgeport ave. is the responsibility of the state. Richetelli said it makes more sense to do both projects at the same time and will be waiting for the state funding before commiting to any work.

Amann on the other hand took to defending the Devon revitalization committee and said that the complainers should have done so prior to the rain problems. Amann said that during his entire tenure as a state rep. he had no idea that flooding was an issue with anyone in Devon.

As it stands this contention between our city and state leaders will experience continued pressure as they are confronted with more angry flood victims after each torrential downpour. Both leaders agree that urgent action is needed and have agreed to put this project on the fast track but not until the state delivers on their end.

The state may also slow down this project with a pre-construction engineering study aimed at figuring out exactly how to abate the flooding waters.

Anyone who wishes to address this problem should direct their concerns to the Milford Flooding and Erosion Control Board.

Alan Jepson Compliments Frank Professionalism

Milford Town Clerk Alan Jepson paid Rocco Frank a very nice compliment this week. This compliment came about from the routine filing of election paperwork with the CT Secretary of State's office. As part of the procedure Town Clerks are required to sign and fill out certain election documents, of which prompted a visit to the Town Clerk.

Alan Jepson became familiar with Frank, from the newspaper stories and when in an earlier visit he left him with his web address and campaign cards. By the time Frank returned for a second visit Alan expressed his amazement in how "professional" the website and printed materials were. Frank was absolutely flattered by the Town Clerks compliment and never really thought beyond the campaign staff acting and working as they were instructed to do.

Alan, who also read his positions and ideas, called them "very well written and thought out." Frank described Alan as being "very impressed" with his campaign style and communication method with the 118th district as well as Milford's residents.

Although Frank does not regard The Town Clerk's seal of approval as an endorsement, Frank said that Alan's "kind words certainly were reassuring that the campaign is headed in the right direction." Frank would like to publicly thank Mr Jepson for his kindness and supportive words.

Rocco Frank Is the Undisputed Front Runner!

With the official announcement of Jim Amann dropping out of the race the Democrats and Republicans are now scrambling to find candidates to run. Rocco Frank an Independent, is now the official front runner with the greatest local name recognition, qualifications, and best agenda ideas.

This lack of party organization, and candidates offered by the Republican and Democratic parties, confirms that there has been a strong bond between the parties. Last election for the 118Th, Frank criticized the Milford two party system for not offering Milford a choice in either a Republican or alternate democratic contender. They have now revealed their intent to suppress party candidates by way of party bosses who are calling the shots.

Frank has courageously decided to abandon the party system calling the Democrats and Republicans mere "obstacles to public representation." Frank is confident that the 40% of independents in town will agree that Frank's criticism of both parties has in fact deprived the residents of Milford a choice. This will be an opportunity for voters to show the party bosses that they do not control our local elections.

Frank's agenda represents true change, and offers a true and sincere mission to bring quality of life back to Milford. Frank stands for leadership that results in quality education, improved town services, and healthy development. Frank hopes that under his leadership, Milford moves toward the goal of becoming the most desirable town in Connecticut. Frank is now counting on the support of all persons, local elected leaders, and businesses in his district to attain the goal of making Milford beautiful, clean, and the envy of our state.

Hollywood East CEO A SCAM artist!!

Quality Journalism this morning at the Day. Yes, I know I don't say that often, but you have to give the devil its due.

I refer to this morning's article, One Small Lot, One Big Mess, about Joe Gentile, the Utopia developer and involved in CT's Hollywood East. The story involves a scam in which he's involved in New York, where he is apparently using some fairly complicated legal shenanigans to bilk some "partners" out of their share of a real estate deal. One device he's using is a mechanic's lien filed on the property by a construction company, with whom he's apparently in league. By foreclosing on the lien he can wrest ownership of the real estate from his minority partners. It's a fairly complicated deal, but it seems clear from the story that Gentile is a slippery guy, and one whom it would be wise to keep under close surveillance, assuming you have the misfortune of getting involved with the guy.

He does it by doing business through various corporations, each of which appears to be set up to handle only one phase of the transaction. Besides making it difficult to prove the elements of the scheme, the tangle of corporations provide at least a first line of defense for Gentile. It is not easy to establish the personal liability of a guy who surrounds himself with corporations.

The Day's story gives us at least a glimmer of insight into the nature of the scam Gentile is pulling in Preston:

Gentile said the lawsuits will prove him right, and once that happens, he will do what he always does: Finish the job.

“The ironic part of this whole thing is, I became a huge winner,” he said. “West 23rd Street is the hottest block in New York City. I'm in a good place, and I have a lot of options.”

Those options, he said, include selling the property at a significant profit or going ahead with a condo complex.

“Am I wrong because I'm smart and it worked out for me?” he said. “Maybe God was looking down on me for doing the right thing.”

The best speculation I've ever heard about Gentile posits that once he gets his legal hands on the property he will use his newly acquired legal position to enable him to back out of his grandiose committments and take a profit out of the property and run. That appears to be what he is set to do in New York: steal someone else's property, milk as much money out of the project as he can, and then turn it over for a huge profit.

Jim Amann Will Not Seek Third Term!

At this point I am really starting to feel sorry for my now former opponent, first his mess with the "crush" comment, marked by his controversial record, then a "crashed party" by the Ned Lamont crowd during his announcement for Governor and now he quits the legislature to pursue the job of Governor.

Amann is really somewhat of a confused individual, but I will say that I recently learned that he was well liked by the bureaucrats in the CT House. This decision as I understand it was a very difficult decision, as he was reportedly "teary eyed" and "chocked up" during his resignation speech.

While it would be very selfish and horrible of anyone to bask in the Amann resignation, I will "tip my hat to him" and say that I am proud of his decision as it now paves the way for Milford to seek the desperately wanted leadership and change. Both of these were a serious concern for Milford's residents who have asked me how can our state representative, run for Governor, be Speaker Of The House, and have a full time job? I think we just got the answer today, he is unable to and has sadly accepted the harsh reality that he spread himself "too thin."

Now, with Amann off to greener pastures the gate is "wide open" for the next level of opposition within the 118Th district. Hopefully we will have lots of great enthusiastic and smart people become contenders. I started this race believing that Milford had a lack of choice when it came the candidates of the 118Th, and I am hoping not to run alone. Nothing would be more exciting to me than to run alongside some truly brilliant and enthusiastic leaders.

Hollywood East? or Hollywood Feast?

Recently it has been brought to my attention that the New Haven independent confirmed firm interest in developing Hollywood East in the grounds near the Sikorski airport. Not being privy to all the details and meetings that my opponent is privy to I did receive an e-mailed request to read the article and I agreed to share my thoughts and to keep things in the open I will share them here with you as well.

To begin, this project has always brought up mixed feelings in me, as I believe Hollywood East could be a great thing for our state. I was a bit surprised by the mostly negative comments, but was not surprised by the cynicism. One of my concerns about this project is its state leadership, one in particular is a college drop out. If I had to make a bet on who was going to get a better deal the PHD's in business that work for Hollywood or our feeble minded state leaders... well its a "no brainer" no pun intended.

I will be praying that the elements behind this deal are honest, that Blumenthal is reading and advising on the contracts and the CT taxpayers are not left with chronic traffic congestion and no funds for schools or road repairs. I believe that botched or improperly structured tax credits can hurt a city more than help it. When the casino deals were negotiated those deals were good for the state (in terms of business and returns in tax revenue) as far as its moral implications I still take issue with the induced negative social impact and mental health problems associated with gambling addiction. I mention casino's because our initial reticence to have them is what led to that "kind of a sweet deal". Someone in Hartford needs to remember that and look out for the environment, our cities, and the needed revenue derived to support local municipal demands. This type of a large scale project will undoubtedly bring a new need for sewer construction, grid work, emergency personnel and the local schools who may get new out of state students but not enough tax revenue.

My initial thought is that the expert negotiators in Hollywood have done an extensive profit & loss analysis on the scope and nature of this project, while one un-named leader is just about ready to believe every promise made and sign anything he must without thinking beyond the information he is fed. We already know he "butted heads" with Blumenthal over the high cost of energy when he refused to support his advice regarding a "windfall profits tax." Should Blumenthal, who reads and understands contracts as he is an Attorney, it is entirely possible that quality advice may get ignored CT yet again!

To sum this up I will say that it is my opinion that Hollywood East is very exciting, but only if the deal takes care of the surrounding community and keeps its promises. The only thing I would change about this deal is its CT leadership and its uncanny ability to divide argue and upset people with ignorance of simple contract negotiations.

Pope Orders Mass Obedience and Submission To The United Nations

This is one I need to set the record straight on, because I was a bit taken and yet surprised that Pope Benedict is out selling the U.N. to the general public. Aside from the fact that the U.N. is not God and will never have anything to do with God, this oddity of the pope engaging in politics will only serve to further divide those Americans who believe in America and our freedom, both of which the U.N. wants.

While I admired Benedict's up and down apologies for the church child molestation incidents, I was really upset over the church openly selling our country to the U.N. I hope everyone who reads this blog understands and knows that dissolving our countries sovereignty is an illegal and blatant act of treason. According to our Constitution, anyone who surrenders our power to another form of government one that does not recognize a single right granted to us by the Bill of Rights and our U.S. Constitution is guilty of treason. Just remember Benedict Arnold... no pun intended.

To put this into perspective and to quote George Bush, that "goddam piece of paper", as he called it, is what he and all his treasonous cronies swore to uphold. They did so with the blood of our veterans on their hands and as our trusted leaders vowed to defend our constitution, with their hand on the bible. Just pay attention next Presidential inauguration, you will see yet another CFR globalist make the same promise.

Remember that the people featured in the photo below would like to be our "Gods" and only you can be tricked into surrendering our sovereignty and freedom away. However, remember that some "not in the know" are not entirely to blame, because they are so polluted by the televised propaganda in tandem with orchestrated media trite that truth has now become stranger than fiction.

Just know that our founders wise words keep popping up time and again and we constantly find ourselves repeating the same dishonorable behavior, and actions that they warned us against. We have now reached a point where our opinion is of little to no consequence, that the future is about saving America or your personal interest. To help put this into perspective, especially to us Catholics out there, who voted for bush based on his pro-life stance, who knew that he would kill over a million Iraqi's, scrap our constitution, and torture people much like Torquemada of the Spanish inquisition. Think beyond just abortion this time around, when you vote this November, think less about babies and more about saving our liberty. Every American deserves a future free of tyranny and protracted wars!America is not Rome, and Bush is not Ceasar!

Something's Strange With Our City Water

These were the first words that came to mind after I learned that 90 plus million plastic water bottles were contaminating our landfills each year. But the bigger question remained why are so many people drinking bottled water to begin with? To me the answer was as simple as looking to my tap water.

Where I live here in Milford I have city water, I called the water company and asked them about water safety and additives to our tap water. What I learned is what I already knew from my earlier days selling water filters for a company, now out of business, Aqualife. What the water company uses to treat our public water is Chlorine, to kill pathogens or germs, and then adds fluoride of which is touted as being good for our teeth.

Congress once said that water filtration at “point of use” is the best remedy to protect ourselves against these contaminants and others. Many people have refrigerators with built in water filters that use carbon to remove many toxins, like lead and mercury. These filters will actually purge toxins and make you sick if you do not change them as required by the terms of use specified on each unit.

None of this was the eye opener for me; the eye opener was our loving Governments concern for our teeth. I was really floored that our country cared so much about me and my family that they would go through great lengths to protect the "Pearly Whites" of me and my family. Than I realized that this is rather out of character for our country and there must be more to it. I then learned that Fluoride is an industrial pollutant subject to grave tort litigation 50 or so years ago. Today they cut it with lead and arsenic and then add it to our city drinking water at two parts per million. America also uses it as a crop pesticide (we eat with our fruits and vegetables,) and we then brush our teeth with it.

Fluoride is the second most toxic substance on the periodic table (except it be radio active), second only to mercury. Most nations like Japan and China refuse to put it in their water and the science behind its application and benefits is hotly contested across many scientific disciplines.

To protect my self and family (at a substantial cost) I purchased a reverse osmosis or RO unit and plan to hook it up immediately. The bottled water dilemma I believe is as basic as human emotional intelligence. The same way a deer moves to a cleaner pond when the water is unfit for consumption so have we to bottled water.

Appalled by what I have learned, I have placed complaints to the water safety people in Hartford (who declined comment on Fluoride safety,) my local Aquarion water company (who admits its controversial,) I sat down with a representative in Hartford at the DEP who I educated about this information, called the attorney generals office to state a complaint and called Congressman Shays office and spoke with his intern who will hopefully share my thoughts with Chris some time soon.

Anyone who reads this article today needs to watch the video below. This is just to get you started; I also recommend you engage in your own research for the protection of your family. Most at risk are babies and young children who can develop a multitude of health problems from excessive fluoride consumption. Anyone with dental Fluorosis, toothpaste poisoning, or fluoride induced illnesses are urged to seek legal advice against the manufacturers of Fluoride and consequentially the state of CT for having a General Statue mandating the introduction of poison in our drinking water. Also note that some baby juices have been reported as having as much as three times the safe limit of the drug in the juice.

Fluoride health hazards include induced infertility, induced thyroid function, induced sexual dysfunction, dental fluororis, cancer, ADD, ADHD, MS, Alzheimer’s, memory loss, and a host of other conditions. There is no benefit to the water injected drug and should be removed from our water in the same manner Asian countries have done.

Happy Valentines Day, Remember Those You Love!

This Valentines Day has come amazingly fast this year. I feel as if I have been through this already just a short while ago. This year Terri and I plan on extending our Valentine wish to all of you. If we could have an unlimited amount of valentines I would beg of all of you to be ours. Just do not expect a box of candy, we are not quite that wealthy but will share this post as my pledge to you.

Valentines Day to me is a day that I remember all the good people closest to me in my life, all those that have brought me joy, love, and a smile to my face. I remember my family, kids, parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbors, and those of you who are alone. While I know there are many people out there who will not have a valentine this year, thanks to good fortune in my life I feel gifted and blessed to be surrounded by so many loving and supportive people and I am willing to share that good fortune with you. This year you are all welcome to visit our H.Q. I will be having an open house next Friday Feb. 22nd and I will be happy to give you a belated valentine treat if you show up in person.
