Developers Project May "Rake Taxpayers Over The Coals."

The name is a gentle and yet wonderful name "Rolling Meadows" sounds like the kind of place to retire to or the place where Grandma and Grandpa may retire to. However, there is more to this construction boondoggle than meets the eye. (besides the fact that its in an industrial waste area on top of I95.)

Whenever a developer uses the word "Affordable" its time to start organizing Taxpayer protests. The very word "Affordable" is code for we are going to "Rake The Milford Taxpayers Over The Coals."

How so one may be wondering? Well lets start by saying that Milford has more affordable property than any city I personally ever lived in in the past. All one has to do is look at the real estate transfers over the last few years and you will see how many properties sold for around $200,000.00. Take this figure, add the $8,000.00 home owner credit, a super low interest rate, and amortize it over 30 years, and that home payment is around $1,000.00-$1,500.00. This is very affordable, especially since the manager of a Dunkin Donuts makes about twice that in a month.

So what is with the shady construction project called "Rolling Meadows?" To begin, unless this is a HUD subsidized housing project or under the scrutiny of the city of Milford (Like Jagoe Court, or DeMaio Court) the term "Affordable" is really nothing more than a "con man's pitch."

Hopefully the people in Zoning and planning, and the Zoning board of appeals will know the truth about this development and its inherent characteristics of a 28 unit negative income property. For those of you who do not know what that is, simply put its a two fold attack on Milford's residents or a tax increase combined with cluster housing and congestive living.

David Sulkis, our Milford City Planner, pointed out that "State law says that you can't utilize industrial land for affordable housing, so in effect, they want to change the use of the industrial land,"

Lois D'Amato has been fighting with the city to get this burdensome clustered development approved, but thus far has lost his case before the Zoning Board of Appeals who denied him an easement through the neighboring industrial park.

Sadly, this project is very close to being worked out, and if it is approved it could bring upward of 20-40 new kids into the already struggling school district. These kids will cost the city an additional $500,000.00 in educational costs. This number does not include the garbage pick up to this location, or the "wear and tear" costs that are aggregate to the tax base, like sewer maintenance, emergency services, and road repair.

Even in the best case scenario, 30 units with an estimated $4,000.00 in tax each will net the city $120,000.00 leaving a projected $400,000.00 "gaping tax hole in the city budget." For this reason alone, this should be considered the wrong kind of development for our city. Anyone at Zoning and Planning who even considers approving this project may just as well vote for a Tax increase on the majority of citizens here in Milford who oppose this kind of costly development.

The city of Milford has no shortage of affordable housing, if anything we need larger lots and more sustainable properties. The Environmental Concerns Coalition, and Smart Growth initiatives have already made several presentations to the municipalities on how best to create a sustainable community. I would highly recommend that this project be "nixed" or at the very least downsized to 500-700SF one bedroom and Studio Apartments if it is to exist in its current form and honestly be "affordable" to those who need it most... 18-30 year olds or seniors.

Dodd's "No Banker Left Behind" May Leave Him Reeling For Votes

Chris Dodd is certainly a desperate man these days, aside from his slumping approval rating and sleuth of corrupt banking friends, Dodd is got the Tea Party Patriots protesting just about every event he goes to.

His candidacy was also complicated with health issues he developed, but after a protracted prostate surgery Dodd says he will march on in good health. For a short while things seemed to improve for Dodd, than Film Maker Michael Moore came along and created a new documentary called "Capitalism A Love Story." Moore characterized Dodd as being "bought and paid for" by America's big banks, with Countrywide and Goldman Sachs at the root of the nations monetary problems and the banking committee that he chairs.

Last week I saw the Moore Documentary in Bridgeport because the Milford Theater only ran it for three weeks. The showings were late at night and eventually the manager of the theater said that "due to a lack of interest in the film" it was "removed" from the theater. For this reason I traveled to the Fairfield Theater and saw it there.

This movie made it clear that there is more than one Bernie Madoff out there, there are bankers far more dangerous and in higher places than we can imagine. Instead of Ponzi schemes, we have the Federal Reserve hiding under the legitimacy of the color of law. They are printing money and issuing debt deep into the future and its costing us Trillions of Dollars. Incredibly no one seems to have any oversight or accountability for the Federal Reserve and its renegade practices.

Congress has become very frustrated with the Federal Reserve, who since 1913 inflated the dollar down to about Two Cents. Amazing? Yes what Two Cents bought in 1913 you need a Dollar for today. The Fed was created on the very premise that our undisciplined Congress would destroy our currency value, and therefore the expertise of the worlds bankers and their connections were important to secure Capitalism and avert a catastrophe.

Rep. Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders, introduced two bills to audit the Federal Reserve. Paul's Bill H.R. 1207 has 305 Co Sponsors or more than two thirds of the U.S. House of Representatives. S 604 introduced by Saunders is the companion Bill to H.R. 1207. The Senate has a paltry 31 Senators in favor of it and the Goldman Sachs boys (lobbyists) running the Federal Reserve recently hired Enron's (former) P.R. firm to pressure congress and the President not to audit the Fed.

There is a clear indication of fear from the Wall Street lobbyists in charge of the Federal Reserve. These people know that once the "curtain comes down" and the GAO audits the Fed and reports those numbers to Congress that the greatest swindle in history will be unveiled.

Congress knows this to be true, but Senators like Joe Lieberman and Chris Dodd continue to attack the banks on penny practices while blocking the legislation that will take down the Wall Street "Bernie Madoff's" that are swindling the taxpayers of America.

For those of you who are not certain how any of this affects you, well think again because inflation affects everybody. Many people today are forced to make due with less because as prices rise, wages usually do not keep up and unemployment and worker productivity also increases. This means workers, that still have jobs, must work harder for less money. Ron Paul called inflation the "cruelest form of taxation" because it is done without your consent, your knowledge, or a vote from Congress.

The solutions to these problems are not easy ones, they are not simple, but an audit of the Fed is the Right step because it will expose all those criminals in the banking system that have looted the U.S. Treasury through Theft, Racketeering, Cronyism, and corrupt business practices.

Ron Paul, a former Libertarian, and Sen Saunders a Socialist are both a far cry from the two party gang that occupies D.C. and yet these individuals are the ones pushing to end the looting in D.C. Why any of our congressional leaders would object to supporting the bill that roots out corruption in Washington is a mystery to me, but what it does imply is that many of our Congressional leaders are buying into the ruse that an audit will somehow interfere with the "neutrality and independence" of the Fed.

Many fear that the Federal Reserve is bailing out nations all across the world, on the backs of our children's and grandchildren's futures. While many are carrying their legacy by leaving a marred future on our kids backs. The next generation will have to deal with ever present crumbling cities that increasingly represent the failure of our nation. Moore represents Flint Michigan, and the tent cities in California as examples, and Bernake admits to giving other nations our tax dollars by way of central and global banks.

In conclusion to this post today, I would highly recommend not supporting or voting for any Senator that does not support S 604 The Federal Reserve Sunshine Act. Sadly to say that both of our Senators in Connecticut do not support it. I personally contacted Chris Dodd's office numerous times and basically got ignored and shut out on this very question time and again. I spoke with his media rep, and several of his staffers no one would give me an answer or the courtesy of an explanation.

Chris Dodd alleges he is taking a hard line against banks and their corrupt practices, but in reality he is just hurting small regional banks. Dodd is collaborating a policy that will consolidate these small banks into one of nine major banks. Essentially these banks will be shuttered and then only be permitted to function under the control of the Goldman Sachs boys at the Federal Reserve.

Anyone who understands this issue will tell you how important it is to have transparency in government, and Dodd appears to be against all transparency at the Federal Reserve. A banker once said in a documentary I saw many years ago, is that all it takes to hijack America is to control 51 people. The President and 50 Senators. Our forefathers said "that banking institutions are more dangerous than standing armies."

As it stands it looks like America's Plutocracy is comprised of perhaps 70 people at the moment. Sadly the people of this nation are still not yet awake enough to use the power we have left... "one vote one person."

Know the truth, stay informed, and use your "one vote" to vote the Plutocracy out. All we have left, is this "our one vote" and it counts just as much as that of a Billionaire so use it wisely.

A Message From Steve Borer

My name is Steve Borer and I'm Running for the Milford Board of Alderman (first district) in the upcoming election. I'm doing the best job I can to prepare myself to be the best city Alderman I can be.

Hopefully you will also support my colleagues who have established the Independent Party for the benefit of our town. They are great hard working people and have earned your overwhelming support on election day.

This year certainly there are numerous issues that have invoked strong feelings in us. Under ordinary circumstances it would be important to discuss the details of each and every one of these issues, but today's circumstances are extraordinary, but not so terrible as to diminish our ability to handle our local problems.

Perhaps it is now fair to say that many are in agreement that our economy is in bad shape, the U.S. dollar does not buy as much as it used to, and ordinary middle class citizens are under duress. America as a nation has never seen its sovereignty and reputation this challenged, at least not in my lifetime as an American.

The future will certainly bring these problems to our local community, and it is therefore my commitment to be focused on the importance of working together, and taking care of our community first and foremost. It is also important for us to act now, and get involved with issues in Washington and protest the Federal changes soon to be induced upon our small city. Time is running out, and our Congressmen and Senators need to hear from you.

For today I am driven by my optimism and belief that we as a community can stick together, work as a team and make it through the next few years. I also would like to challenge you this election year and ask that you stand with us in sending our Washington leaders a strong message. This message simply entails you voting out the the two party system and helping us forge the foundation of a new Independent party outside of Washington's control and influence.

Since I believe that all politics are local, and it's fair to say that those in Washington, who will soon be responsible for all our upcoming hardships, will be unable to live up to their repertoire of shattered dreams, and broken promises, I therefore expect you will be there to vote different. Our community once again, and as in years past, will be forced to function by way of our own provisions.

Our people are NOT HAPPY with the present policies or direction taken by our National leaders. Would'nt it be nice, to just know, that the road to our nations rebirth began with your support of one small Independent movement at a time? Milford could very well be that community. All it takes is your vote, your support, and your willingness to speak out to your friends and family.

Never will I underestimate the power of determined people, especially those who work together to care for their most important assets... their families, their friends, our city and our country. Milford, in the past, was one of those cities that made history by electing the late Charles Iovino an Independent WRITE IN candidate.

Perhaps it was your fathers or grandfathers that pledged their support to Independents so many years ago. Today I ask of you to embrace the spirit of those who remember and came before you. On November Third go out and vote Independent, because now is the time to raise a rift and make big headlines once again!

Dodd Delauro & Pelosi Latest Victims Of Tea Party Patriots

Over the weekend, Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi came to Guilford Ct for a Democratic Party Fundraiser. The event was held at a private residence, and was a "Pay Per Seat Meet and Greet" by Connecticut's wealthy Democratic Elite.

The Speakers presence in CT was not without its troubles, because Tea Party Patriots still reeling with anger over health care, deficit spending, and taxes showed up with a contingent of about 50-60 protesters. Some of these protesters came from our community including Robert Birarelli a small business owner fed up with government abuses of taxation and waste.

The photos provided were also courtesy of Robert and depict some of these protesters with their hand made signs bearing their messages to Congress. For those who may have missed the televised tea Party in Washington D.C. it was the largest public event in recent memory with an estimated 1.7 Million attendees.


Another photo below is from the poster now for sale at online auctions and bears the entire brunt of the D.C. crowd. This protest was widely marginalized, under reported and dismissed with a cowardly bigoted homophobic statement comparing Tea Party Patriots to Homosexual "Tea Baggers."

Much to the chagrin of the powers to be the movement is huge, its real and it is not going away. This latest event in Connecticut is one of thousands that are going on all over America and is the "monkey on the back" of our congressional leaders.

Firemans Muster Draws Large Crowds

The 38th annual Antique Fire Apparatus Show will be back in town today, with a variety of firefighting competitions, children’s activities, antique firetrucks, a flea market, refreshments and much more.

Organizers said the show is the biggest of its kind on the East Coast, attracting more than 6,000 people each year.

Admission is free. Proceeds from entry fees and food sales benefit Camp Happiness, which offers programs for children with special needs.

The event will kick off with a flea market at 8:30 a.m. at Eisenhower Park with a plethora of authentic fire gear, memorabilia and clothing.

“There are treasures here for everyone to find,” said muster Chairman Vaughan Dumas. “You don’t have to be in the fire service to enjoy this shopping experience.”

Kids will get to participate in a fire simulation with a working firehouse. There will also be a large moon walk, a fun house and a 55-foot crawl-through caterpillar. Educational programs on fire and disaster preparation will also be featured.

“It’s a great family day,” said muster Co-Chairman George Ambriscoe. “In fact, many of the teams that participate in the competitions and bring antique firetrucks come with their families.”

Fire departments from eight states will be represented in the competitions starting at 10:30 a.m., which include a “Save the Baby” ladder climb and a lakeside draft for antique pumper trucks.

“Muster competitions began years ago as friendly rivalries between neighboring fire departments to determine which company had bragging rights for the best firefighting skills,” Ambriscoe said. “These are exciting action demonstrations of skills that really save lives.”

More than 25 teams will compete in the tug of war, midnight alarm, water barrel blast, arena pumping and bucket brigade competitions.

The Female Firefighters of America will come to the event to sign copies of the 2010 Female Firefighters of America Calendar and participate in the competitions.

“We think we look just as good whether we’re in bikinis or bunker pants, but best of all the profits from our calendar sales go to a great cause, the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Burn Center,” said Laura Kupinski, coordinator of the calendar program and a paramedic with the Metro Dade Fire Department.

Dead Mans Body Found On Zion Hill Rd. Milford

Police have tentatively identified a man shot to death in a wooded area by Zion Hill Road yesterday evening as a 28 year-old New Haven resident.

The man's name has not yet been released pending notification of his next-of-kin, police said this morning.

Investigators are asking the public for information about the shooting, including the car the victim was believed to have been driving, a 2000 tan Honda Accord, with Connecticut license plates 797 XNT.

The body of the Hispanic man was found shortly before 7:30 p.m. yesterday in a wooded area about 1,000 feet from the intersection with Wheeler's Farms Road. The site is not far from the High Street exit of Interstate 95. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

The fatal shooting is the first murder in Milford this year.

Police found the victim lying in a pool of blood after neighbors reported hearing numerous gun shots.

"There were a lot of shots," said Dee Anderson, who was visiting her best friend, Stacey Cerreta, on Century Lane, which fronts Zion Hill Road. "It sounded like firecrackers and I thought to myself, 'July 4 is over.' "

Jonathan Law Addition Re-Approved, Board of Finance "Over Ruled"

Republican Alderman Raymond Vitali broke from his party and pushed through a $4 million Jonathan Law High School renovation project when the Board of Aldermen met Monday night.

Vitali had labored over the vote. He said last week that he planned to study plans and cost projections in the days leading up to the Board of Aldermen meeting, knowing that the pressure was on him to move the renovations forward, or to stop them in their track.

The aldermen needed to override a Board of Finance veto of the project by a two-thirds vote to get the project going. Democratic aldermen were united in their desire to approve the project. Republicans, except Vitali, stood beyond Mayor James Richetelli in opposing the addition now because they said the economy does not warrant such spending.

The Democrats, who hold a 9-6 majority on the board, needed one Republican to cross the line to give them the two-thirds voting power they needed.

“This is a very difficult situation,” Vitali said moments before the aldermen voted. “It seems to be the worst times and the best of times to go forward with this project.”

Vitali, a retired middle school principal, said he is sensitive to teachers who have to teach on carts because there is no classroom space for them, and he said it is the administration’s job to make sure staff is happy and that the building is adequate.

“I’ve made my mind up,” Vitali said.

Republican Alderman Scott Willey led the GOP opposition, charging that the project should not go forward in this economy.

“These are unprecedented economic times and you don’t go spending money you don’t absolutely have to spend,” Willey said. “Where’s the money going to come from to pay on what we borrow? We’re not reducing class size. We’re not increasing teachers. We’re still going to have teachers on carts even with the addition.”

Willey also criticized the process that led to approval of the $4 million bonding project. Typically, the mayor recommends bonding projects and the Board of Finance approves or denies them.

In this case, the Democratic aldermen took up the cause for teachers and parents who insisted it should move forward, approved it at last month’s Board of Aldermen’s meeting, and then forwarded it to the finance board, which rejected the plan.

“The mayor didn’t propose it; finance said ‘no don’t do it’,” Willey said. “This is wrong and it sets a terrible precedent.”

Parents and other school supporters defended the bonding request, however, arguing that bids for the addition came in $1 million lower than expected, interest rates are low and they expect state reimbursement rates to be less favorable in coming years.

“The truth is that the responsible course is to move forward now,” said Democratic mayoral candidate Genevieve Salvatore. “It’s fiscally irresponsible to delay this further.”

Jonathan Law High School Principal Janet Garagliano has said the school sorely needs more classrooms. She said 15 teachers would be working from carts next year, and the school is short two science labs.

The new addition would be a one-story, 12,000-square-foot structure consisting of nine classrooms, plus storage, according to Phil Russell, deputy supt. of operations for the Milford school system.

The school now contains 205,765 square feet. The addition would represent more than a 5% increase in square footage.

With Monday’s vote, the project is set to move forward, Russell said.

A contract is expected to be awarded the week of Aug. 17, following a 10-day appeal period. Construction will start in early September and will take about nine months to complete.

“Work will take place in an exterior courtyard,” said Bill Silver, of Silver Petrucelli and Associates, the main architects on the project. “So it won’t affect any classrooms.”

Scully’s Departs From Amann Campaign

Patrick Scully, who joined former Speaker of the House James Amann’s gubernatorial campaign in January, says he is no longer working for the campaign.

“I am no longer employed by the Amann campaign because of lack of funding,” Scully said in a phone interview Friday. “I don’t have time to work for free.” Scully said he is working on building his consulting company and his departure in no way “negates my thoughts of the candidate.”

Scully’s departure does raise questions about the viability of Amann’s campaign, although Amann scoffed at that idea on Friday. Amann said the campaign dismissed Scully for reasons he refused to discuss on the record, not vice-a-versa.
Scully said the campaign owes him “five figures,” which could conceivably be a problem because, based the campaign report filed at the end of April, Amann’s campaign had $4,110 cash on hand.

“We’re doing fine,” Amann said. “We’re moving forward.” He said in the old days he would have raised $250,000 by now, but things are different under the new public finance system, under which Amann said it was difficult to spend money in the exploratory phase. That’s why the campaign switched over to a candidate committee, but in the process forfeited more than $20,000.

Under the new rules if the amount a candidate rolls over from an exploratory committee exceeds the total amount of qualifying small-dollar checks received, then the difference goes back to the state election fund. Amann transferred $35,488 from his exploratory committee into his candidate committee, but he had only raised about $9,545 in qualifying contributions of $100 or less causing him to lose more than $25,000.

“It was a mistake,” Scully said of the campaign’s decision to switch from an exploratory to candidate committee so quickly.

Amann’s opponents — Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy and Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz — are still exploring a run for governor. Malloy’s campaign had about $105,297 cash on hand and Bysiewicz about $83,357 at the end of April.
But Amann, who has already opened up his campaign headquarters in Milford, said “we’re the only ones in the race.”

The last time Quinnipiac University polled residents on the 2010 gubernatorial match-up was back in February. At that time 79 percent didn’t know enough about Amann to have an opinion. Bysiewicz was the early favorite in a Democratic primary with 44 percent of the vote, followed by Malloy with 12 percent and Amann with 4 percent. Another 36 percent are undecided.

The same poll showed Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell beating Amann 61 to 21 percent. On Friday Amann said he had hundreds of volunteers working for him and has plans for at least two fundraisers this summer.

Our Congresswoman Rosa Delauro is introducing a bill (Banning Organic Farming & Regulating Home Gardening, HR 875 & S 425 (Mar. 13, 2009))
that works well with Codex Alimentarius (If you do not know what that is please google it because it becomes law the end of this year and it will be your new food.)

Delauro is responsible for protecting the public health, however, her husband a Monsanto Foods executive is emblematic of the concerns raised & explained in the below video. Monsanto's program equates to the equivalent of a U.S. malnutrition agenda, while Delauro is attacking farmers from the back by discouraging organic farming not under U.N. or Codex Control, Monsanto is profiteering from the front end with new Genetically altered Demon Seeds. Regardless of how you add this up it will ultimately result is serious consequences for human health.

Anyone who personally knows Rosa Delauro should ask her to explain herself on these issues, and ask why we should trust a company like Monsanto, or the U.N. rules under Codex Alimentarius, furthermore does she support "handing over" our farmers rights to the globalists and their agenda.

MILFORD - The Junior Woman’s Club of Milford, Inc. this year will offer two $1,000 college scholarships to Milford youths who have shown outstanding civic participation in their community and in school.

The Junior Woman’s Club of Milford, Inc. has dedicated itself to many worthwhile charities, causes, and community events throughout Milford, club officials said. Some of its charities include; Beth-El Shelter for the homeless, Rape Crisis Center of Milford, Literacy Awards, fifth and the sixth grade spelling bee, Adopt-A-Grandparent and The Mercy Learning Center. It is the club's goal to select students who promote itsideals.

Requirements for the award are active civic and community involvement. High academic achievement is not a requirement for the scholarship. Applicants must be Milford residents in their senior year of high school who plan to further their education in the fall.

Coyote Seen in Eisenhower Park Today

Today while exiting Eisenhower Park I spotted what looked like a coyote. The animal looked exacly as the one in the picture. The time was roughly around 1:00 P.M. and the animal appeared to skulk in the shadows of the forest tundra. In the event someone else has an encounter this post is intendeed to alert todays readers of their presence and to follow the following precautions.

To prevent coyotes from becoming further habituated to humans and human occupied areas please follow these tips:

1. Never feed coyotes intentionally or unintentionally. Be aware of possible sources of food in your yard.

2. Do not leave uneaten pet food outside.

3. Do not discard edible garbage where coyotes can get into it.

4. Secure garbage containers and eliminate their odors. Use a small amount of ammonia or cayenne pepper in the garbage to discourage scavenging.

5. Restrict use of birdseed. Coyotes are attracted to seed, and to the birds and rodents that use the feeder.

6. Wherever possible, eliminate outdoor sources of water. Be aware that coyotes will prey on coy fish if the fish do not have proper cover or a deep enough pond.

7. Trim and clear ground level shrubs that can provide cover for coyotes.

8. Use fencing to help deter coyotes. The fence must be at least six feet tall with the bottom extending at least six inches below ground level.

9. Actively discourage coyotes by making loud noises. Motion detector lights and alarm systems can also help from keeping coyotes out of your yard.

10. Pick fruit as soon as it ripens and keep rotted fruit off the ground.

11. Scattered mothballs and ammonia-soaked rags strategically placed may deter coyotes from entering your yard.

12. Keep cats and small dogs indoors, allowing them outside only under strict supervision.

13. Keep chickens, rabbits and other small animals in well-protected areas and in sturdy cages at night. Cages made of chicken wire are meant only for keeping small animals contained, not to keep coyotes out!

14. Coyotes are attracted to, and can mate with unspayed or unneutered domestic dogs. Unspayed female dogs in season will attract male coyotes, and unneutered male dogs can be lured away by the scent of a female coyote. There have been cases of male dogs being lured by the female coyote's scent and then killed by male coyotes.

15. If you do not mind sharing your space with coyotes, enjoy observing them with binoculars when they visit.

Coyotes are shy and a lot of patience is required to observe them. Coyotes will appear most often during the hours close to sunrise and sunset. In urban areas, coyotes may be a little bit bolder. Do not attempt to approach a coyote. It will most likely run away, but any cornered or frightened wild animal can be dangerous. Most importantly enjoy the brief and fortunate opportunity to observe one of the wild kingdom’s most amazing creatures. We all have something to learn form the coyote’s adaptable and undefeatable nature.

Ice Cream Social Tomorrow

Frank's second fundraiser is being held at his home in Milford tomorrow from 6:30P.M. to 9:00P.M. The event will feature an ice cream social and an opportunity to share in other fun gaming activities.

The event will be mostly dominated by next years 9Th grade at Jonathan Law High School who will also be engaged in other outdoor fun stuff. All are welcome, even adults who just wish to share in coffee and dessert.

This event is a fundraising event to get Rocco Frank our Milford CT candidate for state rep over the threshold of 150 unique donations from Milford Residents. Your help and support is greatly appreciated and remember that minimum donation is $5.00 and a Maximum Kid donation is $30.00. Adults can donate up to $100 dollars.

Minimum Wage Increase Offers Minimal Help

The Connecticut state legislature overrode Rell's minimum wage hike veto. This gave Connecticut's poorest workers an increase from $7.65 P/H to $8.00 P/H or the equivalent of an extra $14.00 for each 40 hr week, assuming taxes do not take any of that.

While this seems like a victory for the poor, reality is that core inflation of food and energy has outpaced their $14.00 dollars. However, none-the-less most lower income people are appreciative of anything they can get these days. Some have been stuck on state assistance for generations and cannot seem to find their way out of poverty. The most tragic situation of poverty is when a child grows up with parents on welfare, has children who end up on welfare, and then see their grand children on welfare.

While the $14.00 each week totals out to $60.00 each month, lets face it that buys one tank of gas. This raise has just helped employers meet the transportation stress their poor workers are experiencing, it is unlikely that working parents will ever see that raise end up on their dinner table. Most of what the poor eat is off the dollar menu at McDonald's and like cheap unhealthy food, food that causes diabetes obesity and undermines public healthcare in the treatment of these conditions.

While I really disagree with Gov. Rell's veto, I also can empathise with this states working poor who do everything they can to survive only to be delivered the injustice and injury of a corporate system who oppresses its workers to compete in a troubled economy.

While our problems in this state are far greater than what the Governor or the legislature can deal with, a strong message should be sent that we value jobs and at the very least treat people with dignity and respect. I believe it is more important to value each other, and demand the basic economic virtues that empower people to succeed.

Jobs are the way our local and state economies work, without living wage jobs to support Connecticut's families the pillars that hold society together begin to unravel at all levels. Reagan once spoke of "trickle down" economics, the way I see it is "trickle up" economics because without the masses shopping and spending economies cannot exist.

Willie Nelson Calls For A New Investigation into 911

America’s most beloved country singer Willie Nelson was recently on the GCN Network’s Alex Jones Radio show and spoke briefly with Alex about his views on our government and the events surrounding our direction as a country.

Willie posed genuine and sincere concern, and asked that all Americans take a stand and demand that our leaders tell us the truth, to not blindly accept concocted reports and media trite as factual truth.

Willie is no stranger to the long hand of the law; he was severely punished by the IRS some years back and was forced into a state of near financial ruin. Willie is free today, but as an aging country singer he still wears his heart on his sleeve.

He is somewhat of a cultural folk hero in many parts and is revered by a loyal following of adoring fans. The “neocons,” will find attacking Willie very hard for these reasons.
