Milford Parents Mixed On Swine Flu Vaccine

Fear of pandemic has certainly got people all "riled up" here in town. Not so much you or me, the person living at home or working a small business, but for those people who have kids the health department and the local Center For Disease Control is circulating warnings that insist children, teachers, medical professionals and high risk people get immediately vaccinated.

Listening to the radio & T.V. I learned that Massachusetts was considering a bill that would allow for forced vaccinations, and quarantines of persons who refuse to be inoculated.

To cut through the confusion and get the facts clear, there are some things that the public needs to know about fear of a Steven King style "Outbreak" like in the movie "The Stand." I have taken the time to outline them for you below:

Point One: The Government will not break into your home with a Swat Team and forcibly inoculate you and your children.

Point Two: Being Inoculated out of "Fear" is good for the bottom line profits of the pharmaceutical industry, bad for you.

Point Three: There is no "Bubonic Style" plague at the moment where people are "bringing out their dead."

Point Four: The vaccine they inject you with actually does contain the live H1N1 virus, it also contains toxic squaline, aluminum and mercury laced thimerosol.

Point Five: Most doctors will not give the vaccine to their own loved ones.

Point Six: You can sue your employer or school district if they "threaten to fire you" or expel your child for refusing to get "forcibly vaccinated."

Point Seven: Schools are not permitted to vaccinate your child without your permission.

Point Eight: The regular "seasonal flu" has killed more people than the "swine flu."

Point Nine: Vaccines can have negative adverse serious health effects on some people.

Point Ten: There is no guarantee that the Swine Flu Vaccine will even protect you from an "outbreak" so please do not be motivated by fear.

Lastly some mega corporation has produced 250 Million doses of this "swine flu vaccine" and if they do not sell it soon it will expire rendering their billions in profits as a "bottom line loss."

Anyone who understands corporate greed will remember what our own Bayer Aspirin did with its "factor 8" vaccine see the video below. Keep in mind that this is just one of many instances where our Corporate Government uses a "Climate of Fear" to manipulate our leaders into selling their "Solutions." Be very careful before agreeing to have a "needle stuck in your arm."

This was one other scandal readily ignored.

As a final note I am not discrediting legitimate science, but rather alluding to the fact that their is plenty of reason to ask questions and to be certain you are informed on the facts as I have heard them.

Since I am not a doctor, or medical professional it is also best to consult your family physician and ask their opinion and that of others as well, so you know that in the event of a real emergency you will do what is best for yourself and you family.

Milford Firefighters Engage In A Safety Drill

In full gear on a hot day, Firefighter Anthony Vitale crawled through a narrow opening between wall studs and across a slab of plywood in a vacant motel room.

Suddenly, the plywood gave way, spilling Vitale onto his side on the floor.

Luckily, for Vitale, it was not the real thing. It was a simulation of what it would feel like if the floor of a burning building collapsed beneath him, part of a department-wide training exercise Thursday morning in the vacant, single-story motel rooms behind the Howard Johnson Hotel on Boston Post Road.

The "Mayday Training" was designed to prepare city firefighters how to react if trapped while battling a fire, whether they're dropped into a basement, caught in an attic with nowhere to go, or buried under a fallen ceiling, said Capt. Christopher Zak, training officer and fire spokesman.

Thursday marked the first of three phases, which will include training other firefighters how to rescue a comrade in trouble, as well as to prepare commanding officers and dispatchers how to do their parts in orchestrating a "Mayday" response, said Assistant Chief Robert Healey.

"The idea is to save lives, and that's what we're looking at," he said, adding that department officials are grateful to hotel management for allowing the training, which even brought dispatchers to the scene.

Vitale said he and other firefighters were rotated through different challenges during the roughly three-hour training, "so it's kind of a surprise when you get in there."

"Any time you train, if you can get the conditions as close to what we would see in the field, it's helpful," he said. "You never plan on falling through a floor. You think you have it -- you have a plan -- and then there's a curveball. We train for the curveballs, essentially. Train for the worst, hope for the best."

Firefighters have been known to delay calls for help and try to get out of a sticky situation on their own to avoid being the brunt of teasing the next day, Zak said.

He'd like to see protocols so clearly defined that there's no room for personal interpretation, hence drills on how to request help -- a firefighter in trouble should call "Mayday" and offer location, unit, surrounding conditions, actions taken and those needed -- and how to give it.

"We're trying to put them in a situation where they react automatically," he said. "Like muscle memory." The field training was followed by classroom training later in the day, he added.

The last time a Milford firefighter lost contact and got disoriented in a building was Sept. 9, 1989, when a massive inferno consumed Sante's Manor banquet hall on Naugatuck Avenue. The lost man called for help, and firefighters came through the back of the building and found him quickly, Zak said.

The last time a floor collapsed under city firefighters was during last December's fatal Brookdale Avenue fire. The burning house didn't have a full basement in that spot, so firefighters fell only about three feet, he said.

Coyote Seen in Eisenhower Park Today

Today while exiting Eisenhower Park I spotted what looked like a coyote. The animal looked exacly as the one in the picture. The time was roughly around 1:00 P.M. and the animal appeared to skulk in the shadows of the forest tundra. In the event someone else has an encounter this post is intendeed to alert todays readers of their presence and to follow the following precautions.

To prevent coyotes from becoming further habituated to humans and human occupied areas please follow these tips:

1. Never feed coyotes intentionally or unintentionally. Be aware of possible sources of food in your yard.

2. Do not leave uneaten pet food outside.

3. Do not discard edible garbage where coyotes can get into it.

4. Secure garbage containers and eliminate their odors. Use a small amount of ammonia or cayenne pepper in the garbage to discourage scavenging.

5. Restrict use of birdseed. Coyotes are attracted to seed, and to the birds and rodents that use the feeder.

6. Wherever possible, eliminate outdoor sources of water. Be aware that coyotes will prey on coy fish if the fish do not have proper cover or a deep enough pond.

7. Trim and clear ground level shrubs that can provide cover for coyotes.

8. Use fencing to help deter coyotes. The fence must be at least six feet tall with the bottom extending at least six inches below ground level.

9. Actively discourage coyotes by making loud noises. Motion detector lights and alarm systems can also help from keeping coyotes out of your yard.

10. Pick fruit as soon as it ripens and keep rotted fruit off the ground.

11. Scattered mothballs and ammonia-soaked rags strategically placed may deter coyotes from entering your yard.

12. Keep cats and small dogs indoors, allowing them outside only under strict supervision.

13. Keep chickens, rabbits and other small animals in well-protected areas and in sturdy cages at night. Cages made of chicken wire are meant only for keeping small animals contained, not to keep coyotes out!

14. Coyotes are attracted to, and can mate with unspayed or unneutered domestic dogs. Unspayed female dogs in season will attract male coyotes, and unneutered male dogs can be lured away by the scent of a female coyote. There have been cases of male dogs being lured by the female coyote's scent and then killed by male coyotes.

15. If you do not mind sharing your space with coyotes, enjoy observing them with binoculars when they visit.

Coyotes are shy and a lot of patience is required to observe them. Coyotes will appear most often during the hours close to sunrise and sunset. In urban areas, coyotes may be a little bit bolder. Do not attempt to approach a coyote. It will most likely run away, but any cornered or frightened wild animal can be dangerous. Most importantly enjoy the brief and fortunate opportunity to observe one of the wild kingdom’s most amazing creatures. We all have something to learn form the coyote’s adaptable and undefeatable nature.

Seniors Fume Over Crumbling Wall

Some residents at Baldwin Station in Milford are very upset over the retaining wall built behind five homes. After personally visiting the site, and talking with those affected, a very upsetting story emerged.

Residents indicated that the city was given plans to construct the wall according to building code as approved by the building department. During and upon completion of the project the city of Milford sent out inspectors who approved the work of the contractor. A few short years later the earth induced tremors by the passing locomotives, whose tracks rest above the retaining wall, caused several landslides. One such landslide cracked the foundation of a home, while another crushed a drainage pipe creating water and flooding issues.

Jim Amann was supposed to have a meeting with AG Blumenthal and the Baldwin Station Association, now cancelled, to assist the residents receive a resolution to what is now a potentially litigious problem. One such resident said "that until this problem is fixed I will never be able to sell this house ever, believe me I know I have been a realtor for 20 years and can tell you no one will want to deal with this serious of a problem."

The problem still remains unresolved and is a hotly debated issue, because the builder, in the opinion of the residents, is culpable as the wall was built wrong. However, others feel the city is culpable because they approved the builders work. In either case neither the city nor the contractor wish to pay the needed one million dollars to rectify this problem and two million remains in an escrow account.

Complicating matters further the seniors at Baldwin Station already strapped for cash and concerned about the cost of living, are not prepared to shell out any more money on attorneys to get a resolution.

While this is clearly not the fault of the five homeowners who live on the edge of a falling rock zone, they continue to suffer at the hands of a sad bureaucratic system that knows no accountability, has no plan, and continues to evade any responsibility to the safety and well being of the elderly persons who live in fear of falling rocks.

Our city and state leaders need to step up to the plate and assist these homeowners in having this problem fixed before its continued erosion impedes the trains ability to travel over the wall safely. Hopefully action will be taken sooner than later.
