Big Fire Breaks Out In Woodmont

Last night a big fire broke out in the Woodmont section of Milford. When the Fire department arrived the fire was fully involved and several adjoining houses were also damaged. The weather was also reported as a problem in fighting the fire.

The fire required the assistance of both Bridgeport and Stratford fire stations, and one Firefighter was reported rushed to the Milford Hospital with an ankle injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but residents on the scene indicated that a propane tank exploded and was the source of the blaze. The fire occurred last night and more photos are available at flicker. Click HERE to see the additional images.

Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot A Great Success

Every Thanksgiving morning at 8:15 A.M. people come from all over to participate in the Daytime Lodge No. 144 Masonic Charity. The event is sponsored by my lodge of which I am the proud Master of this year. The event is held in front of the Scottish Rite Festival theater in Stratford, and several people from Milford attend this race since there is no other Turkey Trot in Milford.

This year trophies were awarded to a couple of Milford runners, who were among 715 participants. In the photo depicted to the left 2009 Independent Party Candidate, and race official, John Grant takes a photo of his wife who placed second in the women's races. The money raised from this event will also benefit numerous charities. Last year the Bethel Center in Milford recieved a contribution, as well as several other needy families and organizations.

The results to all races are now published at the Hitek website. Hitek is the company contracted to manage and publish all race results. Those results are available on their website by clicking here. Some Notable runners from the Milford races were Renee Rogers Grace Cicero and Joseph Simoncek who had terrific race times.

Anyone interested in registering for this race next year can either arrive at 7:00A.M. Thanksgiving day morning, or contact myself at (203) 647-0380 to obtain a registration form. Pre registering will save runners money and will be open in the month leading up to the race.

Startford Mayor James Miron Honors Fund Raising Efforts

Each year the fraternal lodge of Masons engages in fundraising activities to help various charities. The organization is put together and currently spearheaded by: (From Left to Right) Dave Urban, Rocco J. Frank, James Miron, Bruce Swan, and Tammy Trojanski.

Tammy is the representative of the charitable organization who benefited from our fundraising event. Her organization works with families in crisis that need emergency food and shelter, she works with several facilities including the Bethel center here in Milford.

This is our first official charitable donation and more are expected to come. If you know of anyone who needs help and could benefit from our support please contact me or Dave Urban for details. My Telephone number is (203) 247-HELP, Dave can be reached at (203) 377-6056.

We also have been pleasantly surprised with one of the most amazing opportunities ever. Mayor James Miron has indicated that he will run in next years Turkey Trot race. This will make Mayor James the first mayor to participate in our new town tradition of health and fitness. Our most sincere thanks to mayor Miron for helping us grow.

Todays event is expected to appear in the upcoming Stratford Star available at the town local library and residents.
