Smith Calls Truce To Milford Sign War

From Labor Day through Election Day, “politics” and “yard signs” go together like turkey and Thanksgiving.


That could have all changed, as Democrats proposed creating a political yard sign pact with Republicans Tuesday. Both parties would have banned political signs for the 2011 municipal election.

However, the city’s top Republican Tuesday said anybody already thinking of the next election, which is a long way off, “needs to get a life.”

Democratic Town Chairman Richard Smith, in a press release Tuesday, said numerous voters expressed their “frustration and fatigue” with political signs “cluttering and littering their streets and neighborhoods.”

Debunking Illegal Immigration

Each morning I thoroughly enjoy reading all the local blogs and news, and this week on the anniversary of the Martin Luther King speech "I have a dream" Glenn Beck will be holding a rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. to commemorate that monumental event.

Our nations heritage on illegal immigration, or I should say Immoral immigration began on the shores of South Carolina where slave ships arrived to an open market. This later evolved into a divisive issue, a civil war, and what later became Lincoln's "emancipation proclamation." Freed slaves, and their children were eventually given a birth right citizenship and afforded constitutional protections including a full right to vote under the Fifteenth Amendment.

Future generations of pre/post World War immigrants also were arriving at Ellis Island in New York, the location was selected because in order to become a U.S. citizen a proper screening of foreigners was thought a good idea. At Ellis Island the intake procedure required the documenting of individuals arriving into America and also a health assessment was required to ensure that diseases like cholera, malaria or the like was not going to be introduced to our country. Eventually all new immigrants were required to learn English, our Pledge of Allegiance, and the laws of our nation. The ultimate goal of the program was to create the Melting Pot whereby the noble goal of Assimilation and Acculturation was achieved.

Today's immigration system resembles very little of the old way of doing things. Clearly we cannot blame most people who wish to become Americans for not doing things in the correct way. All too often the barriers to immigration can be immense, including costly legal fees and years of waiting for INS to get its act together and dire circumstances in their host countries. But this in-and-of itself does not excuse those immigrants who break our laws and enter our country illegally.

The first thing one must consider on the Immigration debate, and often I fail to hear people discuss it, is the question "why are you interested in America?" The answers are often varied but one common theme is that America, unlike the rest of the world, is the last bastion of freedom on earth. Most countries have draconian immigration laws and are very unwelcoming of outsiders entering their countries. However, with most of the Third World people living on less than $2.00 a day America seems like a place ripe with opportunity. We are also world famous as a place where its citizens are afforded a Republic that bars and restricts our Government from infringing on our Inalienable rights as citizens.

As an Immigrant my Great Grandfather believed that the best reason to come to America is because you value and cherish our freedom, and wish to take part in the American dream. Despite the idea or notion that America has no more room for immigrants is flawed, what America is lacking today is leadership in Washington D.C. to tackle the Immigration problem in a way that builds America stronger with each passing generation. America needs a balance of quality Immigrants that will add to our competitive and entrepeneurial spirit as a nation.

What is truly sad today is that the Immigration system has broken down as much as it has. Sadly immigrants today are being chastised, and in some cases discriminated against, for doing what they believe is the right thing. Personally I respect and support foreigners wanting to come to America to be Americans. What I deject is foreigners coming to America to reap the benefits of socialized programs, refusing to Assimilate or Acculturate and then working illegally hence subjugating our labor laws. These individuals anger other Americans who see them send their tax free earnings (in some cases less than minimum wage) back to their families who are living in failed narco states.

To truly correct the issue of immigration, it becomes very important to separate immigrants into "Assets" and "Liabilities" whereby "Liabilities" come to America to commit crimes, and therefore are my and your enemies, and "Assets" come here to build the next generation of Americans "Stronger" than the last.

American citizenship should be a badge of honor that is earned. INS should require that all Immigrants speak fluent English, take a pledge of allegiance and not commit any crimes against others prior to getting a Green Card.The INS needs to strenghthen America by demanding Immigrants conform to the American way of life and not the other way around.

The shores of America were once a dumping ground for Englands most undesirable immigrants or a penal Colony of sorts. The English dumped its criminals on our shores and under the early years of that tumultuous period the Colonialists were confronted with an unwelcome challenge. Fortunately for the pilgrims gun control laws were not an issue. Despite popular misconceptions about guns they do keep criminals in check (just ask any police officer.) It appears that America today, is becoming Mexico's dumping ground for its criminal undesirables.

In conclusion to my post today I will say again that Immigrants who come to America to make our nation stronger not only should be pursued and welcomed, but also treated like our friends and respected guests. Those Immigrants who come to America to weaken our social and public services, break our laws and refuse to Assimilate and Acculturate should be regarded as our enemy as they always were in time past. I believe it is as simple as that.

The Day After The Storm

Fortunately the snow storm in Milford did not drop the expected mass that is mostly on Washington D.C. Milford received about Four Inches of mostly wet snow that is melting in the mid day afternoon weather.

News 12 was spotted last evening in front of Autozone filming traffic and the weather conditions. Kids got their day off from school, and again today a opening delay as the city buses were clearing their windows and preparing their buses for transportation.

The city will return to business as usual this week, and several debates are still ongoing over over the Kimball Report Implementation Team (KRIT), the lack of transparency in that department and the enormous double digit increase in their budget.

The newly created land use Czar has just received a raise to Apx $100,000.00 per year from the original %95,000.00 per year. The Czars are not sitting well with some city board members who are complaining that they are marginalizing, and ignoring the authority of the city boards.

Meanwhile, a $300,000.00 elevator at Pumpkin Delight school awaits approval and two fire departments in the Woodmont section of Milford appear to be paying the price for the city's management mistakes. These mistakes are forcing them to cut costs by consolidating the two departments into a single unit.

This is an ongoing and controversial debate this week, along with several other key issues effecting the Board of Education whose budget proposal has already been approved and is awaiting final approval from the Board of Finance.

The Mayors proposed budget has a 3.95% increase this year and will mark a decade where our city doubled its spending from Apx.95 Million in 1999 to 190 Million in 2009, making the present mayor the most fiscally irresponsible in the city's history if not the entire state. Tom Byrne, a former Republican Town Committee member has become the city's most outspoken critic of the Republican Party and the Mayor's administration.

Full CT Prisons = Free Felons!

There are many scary and shady characters that are in prison in CT, some like the felon depicted in this picture are beginning to get breaks they never before imagined.

Prison overcrowding has earned felons two major breaks so far. The first has been a lift on the parole ban of violent offenders, the second the lessoning of time in prison for drug related charges. Upon introduction back into society these felons will be assigned a probation officer who will expect them to get a job and be productive.

The first break came courtesy of Gov. Rell who was confronted with maxed out prisons that demanded some immediate answers. The lift on the Parole ban now means that Felons who were never eligible for parole can now be released at the discretion of a parole board. The judgment of the people on these parole boards was already problematic after two felons who were released committed some terrifying crimes against a doctor and his family in Cheshire about a year ago.

The other big break came courtesy of the Federal Government who felt minorities were serving unjustly long sentences for narcotics possession and use. The argument was that the punishment mandated by federal statue was too extreme for the casual user who kept getting caught up under the three strikes rule and then sentenced to a long prison term. To remedy the problem sentences are expected to be reduced and offenders are going to be subjected to more intense rehabs and programs like NA or AA.

The bigger picture here is that our streets, already pretty rough in some towns in CT are about to get rougher. The statistics and odds of repeat offences by parolees and narcotics convicts are very high. To make matters more interesting these inmates are excellent complainers who are able to exert their rights in court. Many judges, knowing that horrific deteriorating conditions are threatening the stability of the prison system are putting a lot of legal pressure on the state of CT to either reduce the prisoner population to acceptable levels or to build new prisons.

Both of these prospects are absolutely hard to accept, the state mired with debt, combined with a sensible populous here in CT do not want a prison built in their town. Prisons are the proverbial NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) of chaos in politics. The problem goes full circle when these early release prisoners raise local crime statistics and the cyclical debate of crime and prison construction come full circle.

This is a problem we can all monitor through local law enforcement and your police reports, should the new prisoner reduction policy in our state create a surge in crime we have our first clue that our state is now engaged in "revolving door" justice and on the path to NIMBY politics.

America Dictatorship or Democratic Republic?

Author Naomi Wolf, has written another book and this one suggests that our great nation is on the abyss of collapse to dictatorship. Perhaps Naomi is just an alarmist but the concern over the U.S. Constitution is a growing aspect of the Presidential arena. To start with here is a few quotes from our political leaders.

Pres. George Bush "The Constitution is just a piece of paper."

Sen. Chris Dodd "You will get your Constitution Back."

Gen. Tommy Franks says "that if the United States is hit with a weapon of mass destruction that inflicts large casualties, the Constitution will likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government."

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul calls himself the "Champion of the US Constitution."

Currently in the post 9/11 world new and powerful transitions of power have gone to the White House. These power shifts, power taken away from the people, are due to the suspension of Habeas Corpus, suspension of the Posse Comitatus Act, Patriot Act 1, Patriot Act 2, Thought Crimes (Bill not yet passed) and many other like bills not mentioned.

Congress and the White House has some of the lowest approval and job ratings in history. This clearly shows the growing discord and dissatisfaction that has been around since the second term of the Bush Administration began. The concept of a revolution however, has been around since 1776. Why Naomi is so alarmed can only be explained in her own words, and yet now I question has America become a Dictatoship with a less powerful underlying Democratic Republic? Or does people power and the Constitution still rule. Let us think more about this and gather our thoughts if nothing else, but I am certain about one thing and that is vigilance starts with our government.
