Milford Probate Judge Beverly Streit-Kefalas Campaigning Hard

Milford has an interesting race for the probate court this year. The Orange and Milford courts (and many other state courts) have been merged in an effort to save the state of Connecticut Millions of dollars. This makes this years election for Probate judge interesting as we have two incumbent judges from two different courts and political parties opposing one another.

Over the weekend I personally met with Judge Beverly Kefalas and we had the opportunity to speak in a rather campaign style way. She and I spoke while she was out on the campaign trail and in the local community. It was nice that she knew of me and my reputation with the work of the Milford Independent party, and I took pleasure in getting to know her, and her work in the court a little better as well.

Although our time was short the initial impression she made was really good, and we left each other in a manner that was in agreement with the high standards and principles that are emblematic of the Independent Party in Milford. We agreed that our leaders telling us the Truth is the most important attribute we can demand.

As a judge she also recognized that any Republican party judge under the direction of the demanding Richetelli administration would likely become an "activist Judge" who owes the Mayor and its party leadership favors in exchange for the campaign money and influence given him. This would impair and impede his ability to be Independent and impartial to the public.

Time and again the Milford Republican's have made their activism clear, we saw this when Kevin Liddy was denied his run as a Republican over his unacceptable vote on the P&Z, again when Cynthia Anger was Fired for not following orders, we saw this when RTC Member Tom Byrne was ejected from the RTC for challenging the mayor and again and again for every open minded individual who dared criticize the autocratic and plutocratic style of the angry Republican leadership in Milford.

The judge of probate is a very important position it requires a full time attorney, who is not distracted by their private practice to get the job done. Although the Independent party has been critical of candidates of both parties, we believe that Beverly will act on her own independent intuitions without the undue and negative influence of a political party. While we cannot comment on the nature of her opponent we can dismiss our support for him based on the history of the law breaking party he is affiliated with.

This I say with confidence and on the basis of factual information. This information can be obtained by evaluating the mounting lawsuits against the present administration. Lawsuits so prevalent that they have nearly depleted the entire legal defence fund in many areas of the city.

Most notably these challenges have been severest in education lawsuits and citywide litigation. Litigation that seems to get "stickier" every year. I believe that many of Milfords legal challenges were avaoidable had the present leadership not treated the law as a mere platitude to be ignored.

While we do not accuse or hold any of the Republican candidates this year personally responsible for the negligent actions of their party, we do challenge their judgement for associating with such a troubled group of individuals in the first place.

It is important to note that the the Independent party, without predjudice, has "cross endorsed" other Republican candidates including a U.S. congressional candidate in the Fifth District, Tom Marsh(Chester 1St. Selectman)we have also supported Presidential Candidate Ron Paul, and Invited Peter Schiff to Milford. However, the parties and people associated with those campaigns were embraced because they lack the personal and individual defects of many select members of the current Milford Republican Party.

The Independent Party has adopted the the motto "veritas" based on the tenet "that only the Truth Will Set You Free." We believe that Judge Beverly is the better candidate by virtue of the Time she is allocating to the job she is running for, and our opinion that the Democrats in Milford tend to be more truthful and honest than the Republicans. After meeting Judge Beverly in person, I am confident to say, that the Independent party, who has no candidate for the Probate office, really likes what she stands for and what she alleges she will do for us. We believe she will be a better choice than her opponent and I urge all Independent voters in our organization to vote for Beverly Streit-Kefalas on election day.

MILFORD — Judge Beverly Streit-Kefalas has announced her candidacy for re-election as judge of probate and seeks election to serve as judge of the Milford-Orange Probate Court, a newly merged court effective in January 2011.

As Milford’s full-time probate judge, Streit-Kefalas has 20 years of experience as a lawyer and nearly 12 years as probate judge to serve Milford and Orange full time, she said in a statement.

Streit-Kefalas’ statement said: “It has been a distinct honor to serve the people of Milford and their families during times of crisis and in times of joy.

“Since taking office in 1999, I have worked to protect abused and neglected children, appointed conservators for elderly residents in need of assistance, and guardians for intellectually challenged adults, as well as bringing families together in adoption ceremonies. To me, it is all about family.”

Judge Streit-Kefalas in state role

Judge Beverly K. Streit-Kefalas has been elected the first vice president of the Connecticut Probate Assembly, her second statewide post.

“I am honored to be selected by my fellow judges as an officer of the Assembly. In that role, I look forward to working on a state-wide basis to continue our efforts to improve services to the public and the probate system as a whole,” she said.

Congratulations Jim Richetelly

Although only 80% of the actual vote has been tallied I feel it is safe to say that Jim Richetelli has won the election for Mayor of our town. Voter turnout was pretty low but when compared to the rest of the elections our town is pretty consistent as an overall percentage.

According to news 12 this is where it stands with the 80% of the count reported:

James Richetelli (GOP) 7,238 57%
Kerri Rowland (D) 5,439 43%

It is my opinion that Mr. Richetelli's lead of nearly 14% makes hin the undisputed winner. The likely hood of Rowland winning is slim as it would require the remaining 20% of uncounted voters to be 80% in her favor. This would be absolutely impossible, incredible and suspect given the 80% spread of 57% to 43%.

Tonight we can rest easy that our incumbent mayor has prevailed. Perhaps next election the Democrats will present a more qualified and charismatic leader to dethrone our incumbent. In a perfect world city leaders should not be dethroned on the basis of outlandish endorsements, or crazed advertising and spin, but instead defeated on the basis of greater Intelligence, competence, and qualifications.

To quote the Romans:

"What is popular is not always right, and what is Right is not always popular."

Milford's New Voting Gizmo's Suspect.

About two months ago I was on the phone speaking with the voter registrars office regarding the new voting gizmo's coming to Milford. These were a particular concern of mine because Moveon.org all but has condemned electronic voting all together.

Quite happily I felt very comfortable to know that our authorities at the voter registrars office have the up most confidence in these new voting machines. Not only are they electronic calculators, but they are backed with a paper receipt making the system pretty much a two tier fail safe unit. So that is what I, and you have been all told.

Just last week, in my mailbox came a little postcard with instructions on how to use this new little voting wonder, and for the first time I learned its name. The unit aptly dubbed the "Diebold optical scan" (see photo) requires us, the voters, to mark a card that we feed through a scanner that then reads our card and records our vote into memory. Eventually, after we have all voted and the polls close, the gizmo publishes the electronic results announcing the winners.


This is the part that gets a bit slippery, because it entails my skepticism and distrust of technology all together. Also, being that I am the CEO of Computerfox Inc., I can expertly speak to the fact that these Diebold machines are not only prone to error, but are about as reliable as your basic home computer. Computers that my company fixes by the thousands in CT.

My paranoia of these "diabolical" machines, as of yesterday became a grim reality. What I suspected of them is appallingly true they do not work reliably. The Daytona beach news journal in Fla. the "capitol state" of voting disasters, all but condemned these machines exposing defects in their memory cards, and unacceptable failure rates that cannot be checked unless the proper manpower is used to supervise these units. This too is difficult because, its designers refuse to give up the computer code. Diabold alleges that despite the integrity of the electoral system, election auditors or computer programmers have no right to look at the computer code. This code is the computer language that is written inside the unit. There is already evidence (see the video below) that this programming language can be tampered with to throw an election.



Diebold indicated, however, that they are committed to examining any problems, but to do so with reticence, in other words someone would have to force them into action. Immediately after learning about this problem I placed a "Diary" at dailykos.com. This is what 17 people said: SEE THE COMMENTS

The overwhelming majority response was shocking and not what I expected, and now once again I find myself challenging the Voter Registrar, and election commission here in our state as should you. Please help voice your opinion to local leaders, to restore trust in our electoral process.

Mayor Richetelli Dropped by today.

The race for Mayor in Milford must be heating up, because Jim Richetelli and his entourage stopped by my home today. The mayor has been campaigning hard, I received three mailed advertisements from him in the last few weeks, and today a personal visit and a chance to to speak with him briefly.

Shortly after I announced my campaign a few weeks back I called Mayor Jim and spoke to his associate. My intention of the call was to discuss the issues here in Milford, and also register my views on issues regarding the state of CT; Since Jim Amman, my opponent, outright refused to meet with me, even after contacting both his local and state offices.

There is no chance that Mr. Amman did not receive my message, because he replied to a reporter at CT NewsJunkie that the reason he declined to meet with me was because he found my request "odd" and that in his opinion "opponents do not always meet." Once again today and for the second time I invited Mr. Richetelli to meet with me. It is my hope that after the election debacle wound down he will follow up. I also permitted the Mayor to place a campaign sign on my front lawn. We will give him time to follow up.

As an update to the events of my discussion today, and I must admit I was very vocal, I flat out told Mr. Richetelli that I object to Mr. Amman's current bonding pressure to run up debt in CT. I also told Mr. Richetelli that I find it amazing that Mr. Amann can find plenty of money to build a boardwalk, yet Milford has no money to assist the elderly, or any intent to help children. I communicated to our mayor that Milford having the largest boardwalk in CT is a disgrace and a misplaced priority. Milford should return that money to the now ailing SCHIP program to make sure Milford's children have proper medical attention.

Today was hardly the platform for a debate on such issues, and his staff was under pressure to get the Mayor moving door to door. One of his staff members seemed clueless about the boardwalk project of which I found odd. Apparently their energy is not in reading all the news at the moment.

My endorsement of our incumbent mayor is largely due to the fact that Kerry Rowland listed the following on her website as her credentials:

Kerri’s work history includes:

Internet Marketing Manager (current)

· Head Coach Girl’s Hockey Notre Dame, Fairfield (current)

· Milford Rec. Dept.

· Milford ASA Umpire.

· Asst. Hockey Coach Sacred Heart University.

Its my belief that anybody, who has any experience hiring people, would find Rowlands qualifications as insufficient. In my opinion, to suggest a little league coach is capable of 80-100 Million a year in cash management decisions is irresponsible.

However, one issue I do agree with Rowland on, is that Jim could have done a better job in keeping our property taxes lower. But neither candidate is offering any security to the struggling elderly, and those near forclosure who fear our local government or bank will evict them. Some of the locals I know are afraid their property will be confiscated. They fear losing their land and/or home if they fall behind on their ever increasing taxes.

Many of these retirees are becoming victims of reverse mortgages, only to have the balance of their estates destroyed by CT's unfair inheritance tax. Should a person be fortunate enough to even have estate balances, will discover that attorneys pay all outstanding health and hefty medical expenses as a first priority.

Both candidates are a troubling choice for me as far as the issues go, but as far as the qualifications go, Kerry Rowland does not hold a candle to Richetelli. My opponent Jim Amman on the other hand thinks that her ridiculous credentials warrant his support. If Rowland wins the election it will be nothing short of having your kids little league coach in charge of 80+ Million Dollars a year. The Democrats ought to be ashamed of themselves for even nominating such a weak and risky candidate.
