Glorias Market Subject To Blight Complaint

STORY BY BRIAN MCREADY: In an effort to test the city’s new anti-blight ordinance, a member of the Economic Development Commission has filed a complaint against the owners of the former Gloria’s Garden Center property.

EDC Commissioner Tessa Marquis said she recently filed the blight complaint about the property at 258 Boston Post Road partly to see how the new ordinance works. She said the former farm market building looks like it’s been “burnt up,” and that the structure may be open to the elements. The owners, TVJL LLC, could not be reached for comment.

Marquis said she has wanted to see firsthand how city officials were following the new blight ordinance that went into effect in late September. The new ordinance defines 10 conditions that qualify as blight, including broken windows, overgrown grass, extensive damage, vermin infestation or garbage on the property.
